JB3 1.3_8A4 Beta Impressions
Last week, I had 1.3-7F Beta. Today I loaded 1.3-8A4 Beta.
Same procedure for adaptation since I always disconnect the battery to exchange the chip: (1) Map 3 to allow car to adapt by having at least 3 WOT runs, and (2) switch to Map 6 and adapt by having at least 3 WOT runs. Initial Impressions: Temperatures here where I am located are hot today; 80-85F and sunny. Initially when I did Map 6 adaptation, there were some apparent hesitation/oscillations that I had not experienced in Map 3 during adaptation. However after numerous runs in map 6, the hesitations began to disappear and the smoothness in acceleration became constant according to my butt dyno. Power delivery by depressing the gas pedal is very linear and articulate. Tip in at moderate engine speed is very controlled and immediate. Car feels light on its feet and sounds great. I am very sure that the modifications in 1.3 is bringing us in the right direction. Difference from 1.3-7F: - I can't exactly specify the difference from 1.3-7F but I'd imagine that this map has to have more power because it felt almost similar in power to 7F on a chilly day (40-50F). - This version seems to have decreased initial response delay and lag time (I will have to get more seat time to decide if it is good enough for me). The conclusion: On a hot sunny day, the latest beta software seems to be performing very well especially on Map 6 on a tune only N54 car. I will continue to see if there are any apparent oscillations in boost for my car on map 6 throughout the week. For reference: 2008 335i E90 Nitto 275/40R17 DRs Stock airbox, downpipes, exhaust, FMIC (hotrod's twin in sedan form) 93 octane I will update with more impressions throughout the week. |

Good review. Sounds like it is getting closer to production release. So how pronounced was the boost oscillation during adaption?? I know I heard Terry said he's building an adaption routing to build up from map to map transition but not sure if that's what is intended on correcting the oscillation..

I'm running map 3 right now and it's silky smooth, very linear boost. Turbo lag is very small.

Also, thanks for the comments from everyone. It is a great pleasure to play with the latest updates. If you guys are willing and impatient enough, I'd recommend to get in the game with sourcing your own burner. |

Thanks for the review. You might have to get on a lower map and see how it feels.

thanks for the review, have you tested map 3 in comparison to map 4 yet?
do you run map 6 daily or do you switch to 6 when running hard?!

Imperceptible. Without looking at the BG I cannot feel the vacuum/boost transition, because it is very quick, and perfectly smooth.

Not sure about your question. I don't think I had that much lag from the beginning.
No I have not tested 3 vs. 4. I typically run map 6 mainly because I want to see the difference in power that it has compared to map 3. Yesterday I had realized that it might be putting too much boost for my car's setup. I usually change up or down a map until I find the car behaving most adequately towards it. |

I have always used 4 for DD. It is better than 6 for me under most circumstances, though 6 is awesome in cold temps or with a few gals of 100. I think after my Helix IC comes in, it way be my DD.
