Replacement for Turanzas? Who has Contintential ContiPro Contact?
I am looking at replacements for my 16" Turanza EL42.
At 19,000 miles they have good tread, but I'm tired of listening to the road noise and I've noticed a little slipping on wet curves. From what I've read, the Contintential ContiPro Contact RFT seems like a good replacement. If you've tried them, what do you think?

I had the non RFT version on my 01 Audi A8, so for what it's worth .... Very good wet grip; not much dry cornering grip; and steering feel was pretty mushy. But they rode very smooth and very quiet. Which is what I was looking for with a luxury car tire.
Don't have any experience with the RFT version, but I'd guess they'd ride a little stiffer. |

I think it sucks that the O7 328is are rolling into dealers with the Contis on instead of the POS EL42s. But my CA mentioned some 06 325s had contis on too....

My Feb/06 build 330xi came with all-season Contis. I haven't driven an E90 with the Bridgestones so I can't compare, but I really can't complain about their performance compared to my other & past cars. Plus I've heard they seem to be relatively immune to all the (bubble, cupping, etc...) problems that the Bridgestones are plagued with. Also based on what I saw on TireRack, the Contis have a 400 treadwear rating and AA traction rating vs the Bridgestone's 300 and A ratings respectively.
Edit: Oh, as for wet traction I still have yet to get these things to slip in a corner, but I figure between xdrive and the fact that I only have about 1600 miles on them, it's still premature to say how they'll perform. Edit Edit: As for what obLu was saying about smooth and quiet, they are certainly pretty good, I find that Conti's are pretty good in that department in general. My 6.9 Mercedes has 235/45/17 ContiExtremeContact's on them and they are very good, very quiet and smooth, never had balancing problems that required it to be re-done. Slippage is very predictable on them and it's possible to take a very controlled slide, unlike some tires which grab until the bitter end then let go completely. My only problem with that particular model tire is that the sidewalls are waaaay too soft, turn-in is somewhat slow vs your average Pirelli and they always look half deflated. By contrast it's rather nice that the RFT ContiProContact's are so stiff there.

KL2DC,
stopped by a dealership today specifically to see which tires were on the e90's that were on the lot. All had Bstone Turanza's GregL, my tires were just a little noiser than I was used to when the car was new, but as I got up to the mid-teens in mileage, the noise grew. right now, it's noisy only on certain types of pavement but just today, my wife who drives a Toyota SUV was wondering why it was so loud. Ouch!
