Supersprint rear mufflers for my e92...

I'm in the market for upgrading my exhaust and I'm very interested in the Supersprint muffler set. Secondly, if I should add the extra cost for the Supersprint crossover pipe.

I'm hoping to find other e92 owners that have gone this route and ask some questions:

Happy with sound?
Feel any power gain w/ & w/ out the crossover pipe?
Installation cost & or time?

I recently put on the x-pipes + mufflers and posted my thoughts in another thread:

The only difference between my setup and the OP's appears to be the catless connecting pipe. For warranty reasons I've kept both the OEM downpipes (incl. pre-cats) and the main cats intact. The cats didn't cause droning before, I don't suppose they'll cause droning now.

I'm still in the process of breaking in the Supersprints, in hopes that their accoustics will improve over time. To the OP's point, yes they sound very very nice at idle and WOT. You have to hear it in person to do it justice. It adds a ton of bass tones to a signature turbo exhaust note while remaining civil for a car of its class.

To add to the OP's review, my findings based on the first 100 miles are as follows:

Pluses
  • Rich, bass-filled exhaust note
  • Better "presence" than the OEM exhausts, but still subtle at idle (i.e. non-rice)
  • Perfect fitment (even for quads)
Minuses
  • DRONES inside the cabin -- like a UFO, at light, mid or full throttle. It just does.
  • My car seems to have lost the exhaust "blurp" when the throttle is released. Now this may be change as the mufflers are run-in. I thought the blurp is something characteristic of our N54 cars and wouldn't want to lose that.

Guys, post your thoughts on the Supersprint if you have them. Unfortunately this is not a brand very well covered on the forum. I certainly would have had reservations about my purchase had I known about the drone to begin with...
Update since my last post: the droning seems to have improved somewhat. Maybe it's the mufflers running-in or my ears getting used to it

Thank you for the feedback. I was in the same boat as you...I just recently joined this blog and was searching & searching for info the Supersprint and didn't find much info.

I now have a question for you based off your previous thread...I too love the "blurp" and do not want to lose it. With that said if you could go with another brand what would you choose?

I've heard two other exhausts up close and throughout the rev range: the Eisenmann Sport Duals and Bastuck Quads, both being muffler-only setups (i.e. OEM x-pipes intact) on E92 335s.

Both setups sounded good but the Eisenmann takes the cake IMO. On the count of accoustics alone I would've bought the Eisenmann for its raspy idle and lively, higher-pitched note at WOT. What kept me away was the droning (which some users here have reported with the Eisen setups). Plus I'm not a big fan of the thin-walled tips that come with the Eisen...

The Bastuck came across as civilized, throaty and bass-filled. In a way the sound it's quite similar to my current Supersprint setup--rich tones and great presence without being obtrusive. People on this forum seem not to have complained about droning (but heck, we've been wrong before!)

You do need think about the fitment though, assuming it's quads you're after. Bastucks come with a single, integrated muffler (a la E9x M3) and elbow-jointed tips on either side (do a search and you'll know what I mean). The resulting setup is wider at the tips than any other brand out there. The easy way to get them installed is to buy the Bastuck diffuser, which only fits the OEM E92 rear bumper. I have the M-tech rear and AFAIK there's no diffuser that fits my setup (there used to be one vendor on this forum that sold an M-tech CF item but the scathing reviews would tell you to look elsewhere...)

Last point: i don't remember hearing an exhaust blurp with either the Eisens or the Bastuck. I could've been too busy playing with those cars back then... it'd be great if others could chime in.

good to know...I haven't even looked at that brand yet. I just found on youtube that had some decent audio, it sounds great. As for dual vs. quad, I want don't want to modify and/or add the oem bumper. I'd prefer to stay with the dual round.

I'll now continue my research on Bastuck and who's got the best deal.

Thanks again. You've been a great help!
