I usually shift all gears around 6500, sometimes a little earlier. This gives me ample time to be in 4th before the line. I also shift early because I'm power shifting every gear. Why let off the throttle? When I trapped 114, I gained 24 mph on the back half.

Just curious... when you power shift, even shifting a bit early, doesn't the RPM jump at redline after every shift when you push the clutch in?
So it's like dumping the clutch at red line after every shift correct?

I suppose you could describe it like that. Yes the rpms jump, but the key is shifting fast enough where it won't be a problem. Also, you have to take into account the CDV. Takes balls and a little practice, but becomes second nature after a while. Sometimes I won't power shift into 2nd, as 1st gear is so short. But, I'll always do 3rd and 4th.

When I had my 6spd GTO, I got VERY fast at shifting, and I even got the advertised 1/4 mile time (13.0 sec) going down the track, but even shifting this fast, I was too scared to power shift because the RPM would jump up so quickly after I pushed the clutch it.
Even if I got it right, it felt like I was just kicking the clutch in at high RPM's to squeeze some more juice out of it.
It looks too painful for me to do.

How much of a difference have you gotten power shifting, or you haven't tried out both ways?

Hard to say how much difference it makes. In my datalogs, I notice that boost is built up a little quicker when power shifting. It's hard for me to not do it now, as I do it w/o thinking about it. If I were to try to not do it, I'd prob screw something up as I would have to actively be thinking about it. And it is different than just dumping the clutch from a standstill. When you are power shifting the clutch is already spinning so it is a lot less stressful than dumping you clutch while doing a burnout from a standstill where the clutch isn't spinning prior.

car: 335XI pre 29.2, jb3 1.22 on map #7, 6mt, AA exhaut, DCI, CDV

for now my best on vp 109 is 12.08 at 116,9 mph...on the street without glue and cold temp (around 32-35)

best on 94 oct and map #7 : 12.24 at 113,06mph

Did a lot of driving today on map #6, 91 octane. Very responsive. Power just comes on in one steady rush from down low. Like I said, there is enough torque in 2nd gear going away from a stop sign, that partial throttle will flash the traction control light. And I never had the traction control light coming on so easily even on freeway on ramps. Freeway passing in 4th is fine compared to 3rd before. 2nd gear instead of 1st gear, etc.
