Lightbulb Airless Tire

How bizarre...

http://video.aol.com/video-detail/re...eel/3453459639

I wonder what keeps the tire from falling off the rim

I also wonder how they would handle potholes

It's a step foward for tires in general but damn it looks ugly as hell!

It looks hugely ugly and they admit it gets noisier the faster they go.

wonder how they'd look on a bigger sized wheel such as 19s and 20s. and i'm sure someone will come up with something that makes them look good

I think the way it looks is just to show people how the system works in the inside. IF they ever produce it, it will be covered and will look just like any other tire out there from what I have heard.

I can't begin to imagine how much they will cost.

The military's been looking at these for Humvees and transporters for some time where the risk of tire damage is way higher than what you'll ever encounter driving to get milk. Eventually we might see them for cars, but I doubt many of us would need such redundancy.

very interesting idea and as time goes on I'm sure they will figure out how to make the tires not as noisy under higher speeds. And as other have stated I'm sure the ugly look of these is just to illustrate how the tire works and what it is exactly. I'm sure in a production model they will look much better.

I'm wondering how they'll deal with tread wear, and if low-profile will ever even be an option.
