Zaino or carnauba for SGM 330i
Hi all,
First post, so be gentle. ![]() I've been a BMW leaser for the last six years (03 525i TIaG, 06 X5 3.0i Jet Black), but just recently bought my first ultimate driving machine (06 330i SGM/premium/sport/162 rims/nav/logic7/sirius). I've been reading up through the forums on different methods/products for detailing and am getting to point of doing my first interior/exterior detail. Would like to get the forum's opinion (if already discussed somewhere, pls post link and I'll shut up) on whether the best most durable look will be obtained with Zaino products or carnauba wax for SGM color. Any insight would be appreciated. Thx! Dave |

I love the Zaino stuff, but I cannot get it to protect as well as I would like, any minor amount of bird crap or water on the car and I would get spots that where difficult to remove and some times require a polish to get out. I started topping with a good carnuba after doing the Zaino and I have more more issues with bird droppings or water leaving spots if left on the paint for a few hours.

I used to be a Zaino fiend. No more. Would last a long time but water spots were always a concern it seemed. I just recently got a SG E90 myself. Had good experience with Collinite 845 - cheap, durable, easy on/off, and makes the flakes pop.

I like using Zaino compared to other sealants I have used. Anything with metal flake I would suggest a sealant. Carnuaba tends to have a warming effect that mutes metal flake.
You could use Zaino, Opti-Seal is great, 3M Performance Finish, or Klasse SG for your sealant. The only carnuaba that I have used that made metal flake pop were Collinite 476 and P21S.

A relatively inexpensive LSP for dark colors is Natty's Blue Paste Wax. It looks great. Pinnacle Souveran is another popular beauty wax for dark colors, but it's much more expensive. You can put these over a sealant if you like. "Most durable" is more objective -- you want a sealant for durability. The waxes I mentioned will stop protecting in a matter of 2 weeks (Souveran) to a month or so (Natty's Blue). Sealants will last for several months. Zaino lasts 4-6 months long and looks great, so it's tough to beat, but there are others. CG Jet Seal and Menz FMJ are a couple of popular options. I recommend Zaino, though.

I like Zaino too, but you'll notice that most of the professional detailers on this forum use other products.

I have been using zaino for 6 years.I didn't believe in it only used z2 but i recently purchased a used 2006 330i with swirls and i thought i would need a professional detail shop to get the swirls out. But i called them and they told me what to do and it was amazing. I am not a professional detailer but this shit works. The z5 took care of the swirls with 2 applications with some z6 for gloss and Im amazed with the results.

Zaino does not remove swirls, the Z5 Pro application actually fills the swirls and hides them. I use Zaino and like but you need to know how products work.

I'm gonna join the Zaino Crowd as well here... I used it a few times on my TSX, didnt like what it did with the blue flakes in the Night Hawk Black that Honda has, (Made the car look kinda blue, and really weird in the sunlight...) but I picked up a bottle from the back of my shelf Yesterday, and gave it a try...
I drive a white car, so I cant get that "Mile Deep" look anymore, but its by far the closest I came to it with any product Ive used so far on the 330... Im converting back, ![]() |

Z2 Pro looks great on light colored car and Z5 Pro with a Z2 Pro topper looks great on darker colored cars.
I like Zaino but I still prefer other products. I had to give Zaino a try and will use it on customer's car if they ask for it. It is nice that you can layer it almost immediately if you use the ZFX.
