Tail Pipes & Leather Cleaner

Okay, my S5s pipes are filthy and must be washed, this will be the first time I have cleaned them so just imagine their state. They are chrome, and im looking for suggestions as to what materials to clean it with.

2nd, I would like to condition and clean off the leather I feel like it may be getting a bit of premature wear so a little protection is in order. I assume Zaino? Where do I buy and what do I need?

Thanks guys.

For your exhuast tips, any metal cleaner/polish should do........

I personally like Blue Magic Polish (I think it's called that) or it's called Blue Metal Polish......

You can pick it up at autozone.....

For your leather. I HIGHLY suggest the Leatherique Leather Kit........It's IMO the best stuff on the market. It's worth the money

Here is what I do for pipes:

1. Clean pipes with a degreaser like P21s Total Auto Wash. Use a soft brush like a Swissvax wheel brush for the outside of the pipes, and use steel wool 000 the finest they have to scrub the inside of the pipes. Before you do this you must make sure that the inside of the pipes are not chrome and is just exposed metal. If the pipes are chrome throughout, then just use a Swissvax wheel brush on everything.

2. Use the clay bar method on the pipes. It is not necessary, but I always pick stuff up on mine are using a clay bar. My all time favorite polish for this job is Chemical Guys fine metal and protect polish. With this step its really all about just taking your time. The longer you spend polishing, the better the pipes will look.

You can find the Chemical Guys metal polish at chemicalguys.com. Also check out some MF towels while you are there.

3. Clean the pipes with soap and water to get any oils off of your polished pipes. Dry very well for you are getting ready for protection.

4. Use a nice product like Jetseal, Zaino, or Swissvax wheel wax to protect your pipes and add a bit of shine. Do a couple of coats and let the product sit on the pipes for a good amount of time before wiping off.

Your All Done!

You have a couple of options on leather products. My all time favorite product for leather is the Leather Master Trio. It is expensive, but it is also the best.

You can find Leather Master Products on detailersdomain.com

My second favorite leather product is Zanio z-9, and z-10. The z-9 is a cleaner/protectant, and the z-10 is the conditioner. You use a soft brush like a Swissvax Leather Brush with the z-9 and wipe it off really well with a MF towel. Then come back with the z-10 and apply it evenly with a foam pad. Don't be shy, for you will be surprised about the amount your leather will soak this stuff up, but don't just slap it on there. Give it a good hour and come back and wipe off and excess.

You can find zaino at zainostore.com

Thanks guys.
Hope I helped!

Thanks,

Jared

Sorry to bump my old thread, but I just ordered my Z9 and Z10... So it sounds like I need some sort of brush to apply this? Where can I get one, will AutoZone have something I can use?

I use my hands, I'm very weary of using a stiff bristled brush on my leather seats...

Greeney - for the leather cleaner, it's good technique to use a soft brush like a horsehair brush to work the cleaner into the pores of the leather before removing it with a towel. You can also spray on and just rub it in and remove it at the same time using a terry towel, but I find that brushing it in works way better to get all the dirt. The Swissvax leather brush is popular (I use a no-name brand that is similar): http://www.detailersdomain.com/index...ROD&ProdID=281. When you get the brush, brush through it a few times with your hand to work out any loose hairs so they don't come out when you begin using it on your seats.

When applying the leather conditioner, put it on your (clean) hands and work it into the leather by hand. Apply it as you would apply sun block to your own skin. Don't overuse the Z-10. A little goes a long way.

Also, just a note for those cleaning their tail pipes. I think Jared meant to say #0000 steel wool, not #000, which is more coarse. The finer the wool, the better. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot. I like Mother's Chrome Polish, but as Kgolf31 said, any metal polish will work. Best of luck! I'm jealous of your S5.

Thanks for the advice! I will pick up a brush asap, I assume I can find something like that in the auto stores in the area.

I'm jealous of your 6spd 330i! My S5 is actually back in the shop again for more clutch issues, the car is a mess mate...

Clean your leather once a week with water and a soft towel, if you stay on top of it, it will never get very dirty. Water is like a natural leather cleaner. You should only be using leather cleaners a couple times a year when oil and dirt gets bad, and forget the conditioners as they only add more oils to the leather and do more bad then good...

You'll be amazed if you just wipe it down once a week, your leather will feel soft and look like new.

+1

Its like rubbing suntan lotion on someones back. As a bonus(?), the smell drives my dog crazy (he likes it).♠

My wife is the only person I've run across that does not like the Zaino smell, but she doesn't like the new car smell either.
