Idrive add on? anyone tried this?
Just seen this on ebay and looks interesting though I don't know if I would actually use one.
Has anyone seen / tried this or any "techies" with opinions. Apart from the obvious safety issues whilst driving. Isn't it illegal for the screen to be in view of the driver whilst on the move? ebay Item number: 160320795119

Its a lot of money for what will probably just be a home made lead with a switch on it.

Tony will be the man to offer some proper tech info as he will prob understand how it splices into the cars systems - it says it recognises the idrive controller being pressed for more than a second to activate the unit? The main worry for me would not be how well this things works, more if it is likely to bugger up any of the cars electronics to a point where BMW might invalidate a warranty claim? |

Thanks fellas:
Think I'm convinced already - Not worth the risk. Looked interesting though. My car has the business satnav but not the usb connection and it's a real pain in the backside as I can't play a CD when the DVD disc is in. Options seem to be a CD Changer although I'm not sure if it's compatible with the business setup. I've tried to link up an ipod and MP3 player which work but I can't control via the Idrive. I can do without it unless there is a cheap 'n' easy solution as I don't use the satnav much.

I'm using the Kensington Liquid Aux iPod in the arm rest with an ipod. Uses the Aux in but the kensington means it's remote controlled. All plug and play and nice a neat and out of the way.

I picked one up for less than £30. Obviously you dont get track listing displayed but I use playlists on my iPod. I didn't fancy taking my dash apart to fit the dension or buy a cd changer so that I could get the car coded etc.
