If they were a big outfit (installer) then I am suprised that they did not install a good earth strap from the amp. You should normally rub away at the paint on the body - in your case in the boot and and have the earth strap anchored to this area.

If I were inspecting the amp I would point towards user error. I think you should be speaking to the installer not Blaupankt as they owe you an amp.
I know. I asked for some kind of documentation from the service engineer saying it was an install issue to see if I can get them to cover that cost.

I'll check out the earthing, to be honest I never even looked at the install at any point... believing that a reputable company like them would install it correctly in the first place (even though they ran the cables down the right hand side to begin with).
I'll check the earth... searching through the threads to see if there's anything else I should check also... Read something by MOB about yellow/red wires that he didn't know what to do with up at the headunit, so when I get to the car and open it up I'll probably be firing a few questions to people!
