Car Washes; Why They Suck

My wife took her CX-9 to the local car wash a few weeks ago because I was not well enough to give her car a good cleaning. Now, there have always been a few swirls in her paint ever since the dealership gave us a complimentary "detail" when we bought it. It's such a big car, that I've never had the energy to commit to eradicating those nasty swirls. But after the local car wash intensified the problem, I had no choice. The swirls had to go.

I decided to just start with the hood today to see what technique was going to work best on the non-metallic BLACK paint. Have to admit, I'm happy with the way it turned out.

Today's Method:
Wash with ONR
P21S Paint Cleaning Lotion
Zaino Clay Bay
Meguiar's M105 on an Orange Cutting Pad
Meguiar's M205 on a Grey Polishing Pad
Dodo Juice Supernatural Wax

Behold, the swirls:

I taped it down the middle to demonstrate the progress. This side has not been corrected.

This is the corrected side:

Both sides:

After removing the tape:

A few money shots:

She picked it herself. Honestly, it came down to the X3, CX-9 and the VC60. She chose the CX-9 because she really liked how it drove and it had more space.
I was pushing hard for the X3.

Nice job. Is that a Jackalope?

The CX-9 isn't a bad car; every magazine review I've read generally liked it.

I was pushing hard for the X3.

Probably made a good choice with the Mazda. X3 drives like garbage. My fiance really wanted an SUV so we looked at the X3's first since they were easily in our price range. After driving it we went for the X5.

I was surprised by how nice the CX-9 drives. For such a big car, it handles very well, and has a decent amount of power. I can see why it is one of the best reviewed crossovers on the market.
