When I did my research I found out the TOM TOM is really a European company that is better for European countries because the maps are oriented for Europe. Garmin is an American company and its maps are more oriented for the US. Garmin is also one of the top tier general aviation equipment manufactures, so their hardware is really good.

I have the ZUMO 450 for my bike and cars.

I have a Garmin 255W. Sits perfect in my ashtray and picks up a signal just fine.

Thread's got me thinking. A GPS unit would be nice, indeed, especially if it's so small as to fit in the ashtray!

Anybody have any experience with the Nuvi 260??? Costco Canada has just dropped the price on it by $100.

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 360 for my wife's car. It includes bluetooth and text to speech.

It's pretty good as a GPS goes. Turn-by-turn, says every street name (as opposed to just main highways like I drive) has a massive selection of waypoints and has an intuitive interface.

Things I don't like: The display is small and the directions and phone calls are nearly impossible to hear. Also, the power cord is pretty stiff so it's always getting tangled in the shifter and stuff. Only a matter of time before that breaks too.

But definitely worth the 149 plus shipping that I paid.
