Has anyone used this thing?



I remember reading about it in Roundel or another BMW mag awhile back; they gave it great reviews. Also saw a guy in an STI picking one up at a tuning shop last week.
Just debating if it's worth it. No plans to track my e90 anytime soon, but figured it would help keep me planted during more "spirited drives".

I don't get the point of that thing if the shoulder portion is loose.

There is a free solution though which gets your stock seatbelt nice and tightend:
1. Sit in the car and fasten your seatbelt.
2. Tilt your seatback down a good bit (I've seen some books say all the way, but 50% should be good too imo).
3. Make the lap portion tight by pulling on the belt.
4. Lock the seatbelt by tugging on it quickly. Once it locks, do not let it unlock (keep pressure on it).
5. Raise your seatback once again.

Presto, your seatbelt will be very snugly in place. The beauty of this method is that A) it's superior to that belt lock thingy, and B) it's completely up to you as to how tight you want the belt to be.

... just take care that you don't hurt yourselves or the cars (the belt can be really tight)

I have a cg-lock and found it works well for autocross. I used it plus the "move the seat back, tighten the shoulder belt, then move the seat forward" technique to really lock me in.

I plan to get a harness next year but this is nice simple way to improve the standard belt when you're doing autocross or driving schools.

Some people want the shoulder portion loose so they are free to move their upper body so see into blind spots, or to reach into the glove box to activate the 200-shot of NOS.

hmm not sure about NOS but if my skills get up there someday I'm not above turbocharging the car...

I have one and use it at the track and when autocrossing. I don't use it for normal driving though since it's a bit of a hassle for daily use. While it doesn't hold your upper body still I really like how easy it is to cinch down the waist and keep me really secure in the seat. I'd been toying with the idea of getting a 4 point but for weekend track days and autocrossing, this is all you really need, and it's a whole lot cheaper. I've tried the other method as well, and changing the seat position and such every time I got in just got annoying.

You can pull out the seltbelt all the way and when it winds back in, it won't loosen up. You don't have to adjust your seat if you do it that way.

Have you tried that on the driver's seat?

It shouldn't DO that on the driver's, because that's a child safety lock... there really shouldn't BE a child... in the driver's seat... right? I haven't tried it, so I'm probably wrong, but logic says I'm right! =)

You can also just squeeze yourself tighter with the sports seats!

you can just twist the buckle a couple of times, then it can't retract.

haha... yeah, I want the shoulder portion loose so I can check mirrors, lean forward at intersections to see around the big trucks always blocking my view, etc. But I'm a skinny dude, and even the sport seats don't always provide enough support to keep my planted (at least not the seat bolstering... the side bolsters are fine).
