Run Flat Tire Rotation advise

I recently read here that people were complaining about the noise of run flats, after putting nearly 11,000 on my e90, they were right. However, after closer inspection, I found that the front tires were starting to wear unevenly, with high spots on the outside edges of the tires.

The solution was to rotate the front tires to the rear, adjusted the psi to 35 rear and 32 on the front, and voila, the noise is gone! I did not cross the rotations and kept everything on the same side.

Moral of the story is that we must rotate our tires, should have done it at around 7500 miles, just like any other of our previous cars. BMW's are no different, and neither are the run flats.

You can't do this with all e90s though because the wheels are staggered, different size in the front than the rear.

Rotate them into a dumpster and put some real tires on the car, it will totally transform it into a different beast.

Check with your dealer, your tires are probably defective. I had cupping on the outer edges of my front tires at 6000 miles and the dealer replaced all 4 tires at no charge.

Hi - could you expand on what you mean by cupping? my fronts are wearing out on the respective outside edges but ok in the middle tread. Did your dealer have no problem with changing them?

You can rotate them side to side (driver side to passenger side).

Nice try but it says it on the tire.

So what? Unless there's some language buried in the lease someplace that addresses a replacement tire "requirement", then they're SOL if you take it back with non-RFT's. And you'd be doing the next owner a service.

Are you crazy? In case you haven't noticed, the rear tires are larger than the front.

Really? That's hardcore!

Yet another reason NOT to lease.

And BMW's decision to stick us with RFT's is pissing me off more on a daily basis.

Well, you know what they say, "if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin"... Its funny when I first got the car, I didn't notice the RFs, but after a month I totally notice vs. my old e46.. Its not like our city streets are especially smooth here in Tampa either!

sport pkg rotation

Since the fronts are a different size than the rear, was leary about rotation options. Tire rack recommended rotate side to side as long as they are not directional tires. Fortunately the Pirelli Euforis are not. I performed the rotation and experienced excellent results. Noise has gone away and the ride is much improved.

Directional tires cannot be rotated side to side. Most performance tires are directional. The Bridgestone REO50A RFT are directional tires, I don't know about the other tires that come on the e90.

Actually, you could, but you'd have to take them off the rims.

Which costs $$$, I guess it could be worth it since the new tires are so expensive.
