e90 Front & Rear Brake Pads

Hello all, a few days ago my iDrive was showing a brake warning, with the hand brake red light on. However, in the service status section within iDrive, both the front and rear brakes showed an OK status, with 6000KM to go.

I took the car to Motorline (Brisbane), and they told me that both my front and rear brake pads needs to be replaced. Parts + labour was to be $1,350.00. My BMW is an e90 '06 model, and has 30k on it so far.

Does my front and rear brake pads really need replacing and how many km do they usually last for? Also, I felt that the price was a bit steep and was wondering what you guys have been charged for the same service.

Wow! If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, maybe try sourcing the parts and swapping the pads yourself. I'm sure that you'll save a bundle.

Holy shit! That is quite a bit for just pads.

Is your car still under any sort of warranty??? If so, it would be covered.

If no...I would go elsewhere. At that price, you should be able to get pads AND rotors installed!!

Good luck bro.

OP is in Australia, so not a benefactor of the "free maintenance" we Americans enjoy.

To the OP: For AUD $1,400, I'd expect it to be new pads, new rotors, and new fluid, plus labor. If we assume that the parts cost the same in Australia as they do in the US, then you are looking at AUD $860 for those parts. That leaves $540 for labor, which I'm guessing is $100/hour? If that quote is for JUST pads and labor, RUN!!!!!

It does sound high, so you might want to price out the parts locally and see about doing the work yourself. Everything but the brake fluid flush is a snap. Tischer (www.getbmwparts.com) does ship international, but rotors would cost a fortune to ship. You probably don't need rotors, just new pads, which should be considerably cheaper to ship.
