I - Drive update

Hello all,

Is it possible to update I-Drive to a later version or anything?

It seems awfully clunky and slow, sometimes it skips all over the place when I want to change from one DAB station to another etc...

It seems unlikely there isnt a later version I could get?

The firmware on the I-drive can be updated, but normally at a big cost and the loss of your car for upto 2days (normally due to the uograding failing the first time)

I believe a member on here is looking to do exactly this. Replace the original idrive unit CCC with a the latest 2009 version.

If your car is under warranty and you are having problems then they will update the firmware under warranty to the latest version.

I guess its not so much problems - its just a pain.

I would struggle to qualify a warranty claim I think....

Its just slow, pants, and hard to use... Unresponsive, when it does it skips some radio stations, hangs etc - but its quite rare and quite subtle ya know??

My car is in warranty until October 2010 so I could start my claim now lol!!!

You need to do a bit of a Matt

I remember Viv posting some 'pointers' on here a while back that are recognised BMW problems with the i-drive and if you suffer them you can claim to have them fixed under warranty.

Try PM'ing Viv (not sure if he is around)?

Paul

Just say that the CD continues to play after you've switched the car off - there's a recognised PUMA for this and other issues that will get you a firmware update under warranty.

+1 - my iDrive crashed a couple of times while driving (having become progressively slower and slower). Mine was in for 2 days having the update. I also had a problem with one wingmirror not retaining position settings and this seems to also have been sorted by the update.

I had my I-drive updated due to a telematics issue but unfortunately I didn’t get the new interface, it looks the same but slightly different when browsing through the menus.
