i like how calm they all are. lol
watched a discovery channel special about helicopters last night. i am really fascinated by those things! So they showed a dude going up in the air, shutting off the engine at 1500 ft and landing it safely right on the "X"! And another dude with crazy mustache modified his helicopter to do BACKFLIPS!!! that shit was crazy!

especially in that situation, there's no time to freak out. but the pilot seemed experienced enough, he did everything he needed to do. you'll see in the video how he instantly positioned the plane towards a suitable landing area THEN he attempted to restart the engine. textbook emergency landing. when in training, they always teach us to "pick a field" or the most suitable landing area, GUMP check (gas on, undercarriage down, mixture full, power set appropriately), radio/transponder emergency, then try to crank it over again (if altitude and time permits). if it doesn't crank or there isn't enough time, you just handle the situation and glide for hopefully a safe landing like that. having that camera on board probably made the NTSB investigation process much easier

Dam i was on a plane to NY not that long ago. I nearly had a panic attack becuase i was so nervous. This video actually helped me a little bit knowing some pilots out there are good enough to handle a maneuver like this .

i was in a southwest plane in Hawaii, about to take off on the run way, and we hear the engine stops whines down and all the lights turn off. The whole plane became quiet. and every1 starts murmuring. Kinda scary but funny when i think about it.

I think it was the pilots or the plane doing it on purpose. I've been on a ton of flights where that has happened. Too many for it to be mere coincidence. I don't know the reason, maybe someone with flight experience can chime in, but I don't think it was an accident.

edit: you don't ever want to be low and slow with no engine power, even for fun. the only time you actually kill an engine in flight on purpose is when training in multi-engine aircraft. the plane in the video is an experimental home-built ultralight with, what amounts to, an engine with the displacement of a small riding lawn mower.
