Scratching interior...

I have the black piano key trim on the interior, its absolutely gorgeous...obviously it makes for EASY PRINTS and SHMUDGES. I was wondering if there is ANY way to keep them clean without causing superficial scratches, or is that just the kinda thing you have to learn to deal with when dealing with this type of interior.

any products or know how on how to minimalize the damage? another thing, are there any products to FILL the scratches in?

Thanks.

Clean the surface with a mixture of soap and water or just water to ensure the trim is clean. Then use a glaze with tons of fillers to try and fill in the scratches. I would take 3-4 passes and make sure you rub the glaze in until it is hazing. Follow it with a wax or a sealant to help lock in the fillers. These steps will take care of the light scratches and swirls, but for the bigger ones you would have to take the trim off and machine polish them out.

When doing these steps you must be careful to not get any glaze or wax/sealant on other trim parts of the interior. It would be a good idea to tape off everything surrounding the areas that you will be working on. Also just to be careful put some towels on the seats and the carpets so if you drip anything it wont get on the interior.

Once you are done with everything keep a MF towel and some QD in your car. If you get a smudge or dirt, then just spray the QD into the towel and wipe the area down. Come back with a clean, dry part of the towel to buff the QD off. Don't spray the QD directly on the surface because you don't want to get mist all over the leather and plastic's.

If you do all of these steps you will fill in as many scratches as possible, leave a bit of protection, but mostly just make it easier to keep clean. I do this to my car every couple of months to keep the trim looking as new as possible.

Good Luck!

Jared

Search the forum for "touch up painting/reparing". There are a couple of good DIY's.

has anyone tried using an ipod cleaning kit to try and fix any scratches they might have had in the interior clearcoat?

Try the Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze. Havent used it but i think im going to try it. i have glazed and sealed an interior before and it does help. +1 on making sure you tape up the interior first.

alrighties...that sounds like a good plan, I cant make it much worse than it is already Lol!

so im basically just looking for a sealant, then off i go? I take it the product you mentioned is both (im clueless about this kinda thing, sorry) So when i get the proper products, im to simply tape the interior to make sure im not getting it all over the place, apply to the piano key, rub on then wipe off with a mf towel.....

correct?

the glaze will fill in finer swirl marks and the sealant will protect it from getting anymore.

Guess ill be giving this shiat a shot.... worst case scenario, i purchase a new part

Any idea on using an ipod cleaning kit? Im assuming the clear on the interior can be treated just like any other plastic surface in regards to possibly using other forms of plastic polishes and so forth?

Clear Bra !

Yeah , I thought about clear bra-ing my aluminum trims. the tiny dents you get from the seat belt hitting it has accumulated to a point where it is getting on my nerves.
