Challenge to Tuners

Not to start a tuner war or anything but... I think it would be interesting to see how the various tunes stack-up against each other on an auto-x course. So I am extending a special invitation to the tuners - bring your best and fastest cars and drivers this Sunday, April 26th to the BMW CCA LA Auto-x. Tuners who elect to show-up can run free if you PM me in advance.

This is not an open invitation to argue in this thread about which tune is best. It is a different kind of challenge. The proof from this challenge will be in the timing lights!

Plus, Hooters is catering the event and sending staff to help serve the food.

I like your enthusiasm but tuning our engines for high horsepower and torque will make little difference on a properly set up auto-x course (speaking from experience running PROcede on valet and then 90% torque).

Now if you are talking about tuners as in entire vehicle tuning packages (suspension, tires, brakes) then maybe you should have posted in the tracking and auto-x section of the forum.

+1, auto-x is way more about driver skill than high HP

it's no longer about even tuners at this point. it's about who's the better driver regardless of tunes.

I have a feeling that a stock ecu car will probably do better on an auto X course.

guys... the LA BMWCCA needs attendence for the upcoming autocross. Play along. Have your Terry or Shiv say that "Mr.5 reps my tune", or whatever. Then, you get a free day of autox.

I'm positive that a tune in the hands of a "good" driver will make a difference.

Mr5, I say you do it. We'll swith cars for a session and we'll see what the difference is between out setups? We'll switch wheels too. You melt yours, I'll melt mine.

EDIT: you guys aren't basing your opinions on this thread are you? http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=truck

EDIT EDIT: i'm not saying I'm a good driver, just that Mr5, you should save some cash and come out and play. And eat some chicken wings. Mmm mmm

I would have just come check the Hooters girls, or was that a joke too?

Problem is I am on the other side of the continent. You guys have all the fun, not fair.

Tempting. I have an LSD so some may cry foul. Not a big fan of autox although I've always done well - might come out just to support the club.

Pay my admission and I will make the 200 mile round trip to Fontana. Although I have worn out Generals in the rear , the car is definitely tail happy to the extreme, but it would be entertaining nonetheless.

pick up the phone, send an email, click a link, w/e. Make it happen.

Never done an LA event, but I'm sure it's gonna be a blast.

Oh, the last autox I did, there was an instructor in my car then a PROcede Rev2 car back to back. She commented on power delivery that confirms every bit of marketing that we read. First, she said there was lots more power with the procede car. And, that the power delivery was smoother and "more linear". She said my 29.2 (I don't know) car was unpredictable when compared to the tuned car.

Bingo! You crack me up! Thanks for the pitch man.

I have stepped-up to tackle this job and it is my first time ever running an auto-x. If we (LA Chapter) want cheap, fun driving events to continue in the future we need to knock this one out of the park.

And no, Hooters was NOT a joke. They are really catering the event and sending servers.
