Ah! Now we know why Shiv is so busy...

With this info, it will adjust both the user torque level/max boost AND the ignition trim % until it achieves max safe performance (which can be defined by the user or left on default settings). Right now, there is too much variance between cars, conditions, fuel quality to provide a one-size-fits-all tune. So we are going to let the computer do what it does best in order to compensate. While still providing max/min authority ranges and a visual indication of knock activity (flashing SES light).

This is a true auto-tune (boost, fuel and ignition adjusted in both directions). Not like the auto-adapt or auto-tune terms that have been thrown around before which is basically wastegate DC adaption and negatively learned ignition corrections.

They also wrote those tunes yopu guys are praising last I checked, so why doubt they can do this and get same performance? in a way, the proactive tune might be evenb better than a fixed tune. It can detune tyour car when things are not optimal and also tune up to take adavantage of your mods. Excellent idea!

Does auto-tuning mean there should be an adaptation period? How long would it take? Say one day you toss in some 100oct fuel. How long would it takes to auto-tune itself back to max performance? And obviously there would have to be a procedure to it, such as doing a couple of hard pulls ..

Shiv,

Which of all these new features (if any) are being utilized in the current CANbus beta maps? It doesn't seem to have too much trouble adapting at all...

Hi,

are you sure about stage 2? Have you some evidence (dyno sheet stage 1 vs stage 2)? Shiv suggested to raise torque % instead of using higher stage if you're not completely catless...

And I NEVER use lower than 93 (98 European) octane gas

Be careful using a higher stage map than your mods allow... i thought i might be ok running stage 3 when I had the stock FMIC because of the very cold weather and my 93 octane gas... i went to the dyno and tested things and I made less power with the stage 3 map than the stage 2.

so definitely get on a dyno if you want to test that

I only have DCIs and nothing else and stage 2 made 10whp more than stage 1.

Having said that, I believe that Stage 1 CANbus make a lot more power than the old Stage 2...

By now I think that Shiv is just trying to finalize all the maps for final non-beta release instead of putting out a Stage 2 beta.

He seems to be working on all kinds of user adjustables and adding a bunch of other features like auto tuning, knock sensor indicator, timing adjustability, closed system non-adaptation logics and God knows what else.

Either way...Stage 1 CANbus is stronger than the last Stage 2 and possible Stage 3. Give it a go at the track and do my a favor and try second gear launches if you are 6mt.

Good Luck!!!

the stock clutch wont hold if you try launching hard in 2nd gear. at least mine didn't. wont try it again either.

do you spin crazy when you launch out of first or something? you're talking about the manual trans right? i tried to launch pretty high in 2nd hoping to get a similar hole shot like in first...just did a quick jump then tach went straight to redline followed by the oh-so-beautiful smell of clutch stir fry.

Maybe I am getting old, but why on earth you want that? I thought The beauty of BMW was in the driving not in the launch-ability. I wouldn't mind, if I couldn't do a crazy 2nd gear launch, because this is like 2% of the driving expirience if that. I just don't brake torque or launch my vehicle at all. I want the driveline to remain solid even with high power values...

Shiv,
I just installed Canbus tonight..DAMN its awesome...
My CANbus stg 2 didnt work at first and I had reconnected all the cables,
looked like 1 of the canbus wire was loose but its all fixed now.

Has this new User Adjustable software been released yet or still only v3.1 reader?

**NOTE, if ur canbus doesnt work, MAKE SURE U CHECK ALL UR CABLES

Still 3.1 Reader software. He posted on the latest map thread that the new user adjustable page should be coming out in several days:
