For 1600, there's no way it's full Ti. The auction says tips only.

Is this HKS exhaust made by HKS from Japan(http://www.hks-power.co.jp/)??? or it's just a US company that happens to have the same name???

just to verify, this is being called "catback" so I assume it attaches to the back of the stock cats... too bad it isn't DP-back for that price.

Metal costs more when it "knows" it is going to be attached to a BMW. Check out this exhaust, pretty much the same overall size dimensions and dual... actually I bet it is longer plus it has larger Ti tips and the extra "rasp reduction" cannistors by the mufflers:

http://www.intensepower.com/hksduhititex.html

says $1600 now but used to be about $1450

and for our car:

http://www.advancespeedshop.com/hks-...1-p-10437.html

Pay about $100 more for smaller tips and no cannisters "I'm lovin it"

The exhaust is growing on me, even with the Ti tips and all........

Can anyone chime in about which exhaust is louder, HKS or AE?

In the market for a bolt-on exhaust like the one HKS and AE offers.

TIA

The HKS exhaust is downpipe-back. The stock secondary cats are removed.

The AE exhaust is louder than the HKS exhaust (which I have).

someone said the AE drones like crazy in here...anyone else can back up that statement? im on the fence of the HKS and AE...since the ae is fully divorced and the HKS has an H-pipe, im not sure. HKS sounds better, but how much does the H-pipe affect performance?

I just want to see a lightweight full system. Why bother with Ti tips? That is nothing but show. The HKS looks like a fine system for the $. Obviously a full Ti system would be double the price.

In that case, not too bad on price (considering competition)... I have been wanting the AE for some time and this new HKS exhaust is the 1st competitor as far as I am concerned... I personally like the burnt Ti tips but I don't like the H-pipe (for TT cars) H or X good for N/A cars. Hmmm

I have seen it for sale online, 1 site says 60mm pipes, another says 65mm pipes. I know people say it is "2.5 inches" but HKS always builds according to mm measurements... anyway I hope this is 65mm because that would be about 2.56 inches which is great. If you are using 2.5 inch DP's with a 60mm exhaust (2.36) then you are downsizing and creating slight turbulence at the connections. On that same note, what exact size are the stock DP's at exit?

Zeph - Whatever you end up with. On the install check for heat shield clearance throughout. My Britalman was installed by a shop and it rattled at certain RPM's, when we put on the AE the heatshield in one area was touching. The heatshield material is very flexible and I'm sure could be formed a little different on each car. Where mine was touching there was about an inch clearance to work with, so we just carefully moulded it to create a few mm's of clearance and no rattle at all.
