Besides death and taxes, the other certainty in life is that every 4-5 months someone will pop up in the FI forum and claim the Dinan/BMW relationship is dead.

i had my HPFP replaced under warranty at my dealer (which has never been a Dinan dealer) with no problem, hassle, or anything about 2-3 weeks ago. there are way too many variables involved (i.e. the attitude you go there with, what SA you get/request, etc etc). like ybbiz said, someone gets word that dinan is going away every few months.

This ain't the first time someone has claimed no more Dinan, and it won't be the last. I won't believe it until I see it for myself.....

My dealer hasn't said anything about it. They are still Dinan reps.

I was just at my local dealership and the Dinan rep admits that BMWNA has been a little more strict in scrutinizing the warranties on modified vehicles. He did not state anything about it being centered on any problems of the turbos, despite some pestering on my part. He never brought up the BMW performance items either, but this is my other suspicion, as well.
That dealer will happily install any item for the customer, but they let the customer know fully well that any warranty issues are not in the dealerships hands. He even admitted that any modification, even Dinan, is not above scrutiny from the point of view of BMWNA. He did admit that Dinan has gone above and beyond for customers, but in the end the customer has to be fully aware of the potential consequences. I hold a lot of respect for the dealership service center, as they have experience in the full range of BMW cars (form grocery getters to race-prepped M-cars). I will be going with the Dinan tune, unless they are dropped from my local dealership. It would be nice to have a choice in items similar to the Alpina models overseas, which are 100% warrantied. |
