Near side mirror when in reverse

Hi,

Just wonered if someone could help with a little problem I've got.

The nearside mirror doesn't drop when putting the car in reverse - the mirror position selector is pushed to the left (near side) and the mirror did drop the first time I used the car, but it doesn't anymore - is it me???!!!

Thanks!

Have you got your lights on when you are reversing?

It does for me and always has, however this can be programmed on or off.

Thing i had tho, was that everytime i left the car, or unlocked it, my leftside mirror went all the way to the left, and down ... so everytime i wanted to go somewhere i had to manually recalibrate it all the way back lol... A quick visit to the dealership and they just reprogrammed that out tho.

If you have a passenger mirror that dips when reverse is selected it will only do it when the mirror selector is on the driver's mirror - offside.

You said in your post, nearside, and that switches the function off.

I have the DRLs on and my mirror drops when going into reverse...

So can't be that.

The mirror selector is in the OFF SIDE pos, and it's been working like a dream all day!

Now, does anyone know how to find out what gear you're in with an auto box ? (apart from counting them as you put your foot down.....!)

Also, is there anyway of adding a boot release button to the blank above the bonnet release? Is it a standard part of the loom and would it need coding?

All these questions!

Can't find out what gear you're in, other than by working it out via speed and rpm...!

And yes, there is a way to put the boot release button in - it needs a special wiring loom and splice into the connector. My brother made up a whole load of kits for the E60 forum a couple of years ago, and this same kit can still be used in the E9x that we have. I'll ask him how much he was selling the kits for and come back to you....

Not every car has a dipping rear mirror - normally only comes with electric memory seats, and/or the folding mirror pack...
