Bluetooth TCU Retrofit Questions
I'm thinking about retrofitting Bluetooth/BMW Assist into my 2006 325i, July 2005 production. I'm wondering if anyone could answer the following questions before I order the parts and try to get my car reprogrammed. I plan to get the parts from Tischer, and I've e-mailed Evan already. If anyone else who has done the retrofit can offer some advice, I'd appreciate it.
I picked up a TCU from a salvage yard. TCU part number is 84-10-9120741. Will this TCU work? RealOEM finds this part under E60 and E90. I believe the TCU was removed from an E60. Will an FZD (overhead button panel) from a 2007 335i work? I don't have a part number, but I believe it is a 04/07 production 335i if that helps. If not, what part number would I need for a tan interior? Other than color, is there any incompatibilities between different year FZDs? Do I need the backup CDMA antenna? Instructions did not mention installation of the antenna. |

The retrofit will work if you use the EXACT parts required. Using scrap parts is a recipe for trouble and hours at your dealership arguing w/ the SA's.

Yes, I've read all posts on retrofitting and I've also emailed Evan with my VIN regarding the part number for the FZD.
I decided to try this retrofit out after buying a TCU and FZD for cheap at a salvage yard today. I have the TCU in hand, and the part number even matches the part number on the retrofit instructions PDF, but different part numbers are mentioned in various threads. According to Tischer's online ordering system, the part number on mine TCU has been superseded for a new TCU, but that shouldn't be a show stopper. I could not get the FZD today, since the car was not easily accessible. I did see the FZD. It was in a 04/07 build 335i E90. I can't imagine that this FZD would be different than the one I would be using, but we will see. I'll update everyone when I make some progress. |
