How to set gains with no volume level?

how do you guys set gains when you cant see a max or min volume level on the stock non logic 7 head units? I was thinking about putting it up to volume I like and use a thin piece of glow in the dark sticker to mark my level. So ghetto but what else can we do? Or memorize the clicks up on the steering wheel control?

unfortunately this wont work as you know our knob does not have a max or min level because you can rotate it continously, your best option is turn the stereo up all the till it starts to distort then turn it back a little and use that as your max gain level.

Thanks for your response but I think the knob does eventually stop turning? So if you can remember the amount of turns and mark it off wouldnt that be more safe to pump your set max level within your rms?

No, it doesn't. Both knobs are just rotary encoders with no min or max. Think about it -- if the volume knob had hard stops anywhere, the system couldn't re-set the volume to default on power cycle (without automatically twirling the knob somehow) or the user would quickly walk off the end of the scale.

Yup you guys are right...just checked. So maybe memorizing click ups on the steering wheel volume control to set max?
