I am not an audio/gadget kinda guy, so I was hoping someone could give me a quick simple answer.

I currently have an 08 3 series with ipod integration. i love how i can just have the ipod plugged in, and run through everything on idrive. well, i'm looking to switch over to an 06 330, and would like to know if i could still have the same integration. i know the car has the option, but how is the interface with the stock set up? do you still get to run through your songs on idrive? how does it display? if not, then what are my options to upgrade so i can have the same ipod experience as with my 08?

i've searched, and found some information, but nothing direct and to the point. i appreciate any feedback.

i have a 06 330i also w/ nav. the ipod connector sux ass with it. it's just the audio input from your ipod, nothing else. i don't think there's any solution to it also, because if you buy the oem connection it won't work......

but if it doesn't have nav, i think you can connect it to the radio and the interface is better......

With NAV, can you just make it aux input and use the ipod itself to control the music?

First, I'm not sure why you would want to go from an 08 to an 06.

Regarding iPod integration, you can get the iPod MOST bus retrofit kit. It will work in a similar manner to your current setup but there are significant limitations on the number of files that can be displayed and it will not display Genre, Album, Playlist but rather, since it emulates the CD changer, CD1, CD2, CD3.

On the plus side, the retrofit kit handles podcasts properly and the new factory option does not.

I might be looking into an 06 330i and I have yet to find a efficent way to hook up my iphone to play music. This is pretty depressing, I'd settle for it to play even the nano since iphone was not out in 06

Jspira - really don't want to go from 08 to 06...but getting laid off in march doesn't help. just want to get my debt/costs straightened out for what may be uncertain times. gotta be over-prepared when you have a mtg and kids there is also a good chance i will not make what i make now at my next endeavor.

I hope things work out but the depreciation hit you might take on an 08 might negate the savings on an 06.

Regarding the iPod connectivity, see my article in the (I believe) August 2006 Roundel and that will give you a better idea of its full functionality.
