Bicycle carrier for E90

Hi,

Done a search but got too many irrelevant results. I think I saw a topic about this before ...

I'm looking for a bike carrier for my E90. Preferably one that attaches to the back rather than the roof.

Anyone know where to get one?

Cheers.

Saris Bones is about the best you can get if you don't have a tow ball. If you do then Thule will be your best bet.

I've transported bikes in a number of ways and the roof option is the best by far (unless you have a tow ball). The boot mounted carriers move slightly, especially when you've more than one bike on, and will mark your paint work over time. Coupled with the fact that you need a trailer board to remain legal (some Police forces are tighter on this than others), they are more hassle than they're worth and there is always the problem of what to do with it when you're on your ride!

The roof option is slightly more expensive if you get quality bike racks (which I would recommend), but are far more secure. The only problem I have is that they cost you more if you ever travel by ferry (with your bikes). I use BMW roof bars (actually cheaper than Thule!!!) and Thule Pro Bike Carriers (about £50 each from eBay) - you can get 4 accross the roof bars.

The only way to avoid damaging your bikes let alone the car is a tow bar mounted Thule

http://www.thule.com/Thule/ProductLi...____83171.aspx

Or mounting them on the roof

Its also hard locking the bikes when hanging off the back.

I use BMW bars and racks. £125 for the bars and £75 for the racks. All with locks. All bought a lot cheaper than this on fleabay.

Had the halfords 3 x bike carrier for the back, bloody dangerous, got to drive like a woman. too much flex/movement in it

Now got the thule roof kit, check under your flaps to see the threads...Makes it dead sturdy as you just screw it in and you hardly notice it, even with 4 bikes on the roof....

So unless you've got a towbar, wouldnt reccomend it

I bought a Paddy Hopkirk high level one that doesn't obscure the lights and number plate a few years ago.

I've used it on several cars and was paranoid about marking the paint, but in reality it's been fine.

They are rock solid at speed as well. (if you get the straps really tight - unlike in the photo!)

Thanks everyone.

I don't have a tow bar so will consider roof mounted.

nfs - that Paddy Hopkirk is shown on a hatchback - do they fit on E90 saloons?

Cheers again
