Help pls..O2 sims -short circut to positive

Hi,

I have just installed some UR cattless DP,s and the RR O2 sims (adjustment harnesses were installed).

Unfortunately I have a CEL. I had BMW Australia read the error codes aswell as clear the codes.

But with in 10 miles the CEL came back up. Codes are as follows:

DME-2C74 DME: Oxygen sensor after catalytic converter 2, signal - short circuit to positive - Fault currently present - Fault would cause warning lamp (MIL) to light up
Oxygen sensor 2 downstream of catalytic con B1214_NH6LH2

DME-2C73 DME: Oxygen sensor after catalytic converter 1, signal - short circuit to positive - Fault currently present - Fault would cause warning lamp (MIL) to light up
Oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic con B1214_NH6LH1

Could you please advise on how to recitfy this situation? Could this be caused by incorrect installation? Could the O2 sims be damaged?

Do I need to remove the adjustment harnesses?

Regards,
Alan

Alan,

Why not give Andrew at SouthernBM in Victoria a call, he's pretty knowledgable and would propbably be willing to give you some advise over the phone.

Oh and why did you go to BMW Australia to read the codes, are you not interested in keeping any form of warranty? There are other options available to you such as the BT cable which is pretty cheap insurance against having odd codes read by the dealer.

Cheers,

S

Hi,
I got in contact with Andrew at SouthernBM, Doubled checked the wiring and connections but still getting CEL. Seems to be a problem my RR O2 sims so Andrew will be supplying another set to me.

I don't intend to go all out in tuning (at this stage) so I haven't invested in a BT cable. The reason that I went to BMW Aust for code clearing is that they are fine with me doing this mod. They were actually willing to do the installs (cattles DP's O2 sims)for me but were booked out till the 18th May. Also they charge $150 per hour just for labour.

Regards
Alan

Alan,

You should save on the sims and get a procede rev 2. Inbuilt sims and a great boost in power.

My local BMW $tealership sh*ts themselves with something as minor as hard wiring an alternative Navi unit so you have some good contacts there in WA.

Cheers,

S

Sound like misinstalled or defective sims. Try contacting Riss? Worst case pick up some BMS sims from me. For offroad use only!

I express sent another set over to him, I'm waiting to hear back so i guess no news is good news. Usually these things are due to install though, especially since he has the latest O2 sims and not the early type.

Finally had the 2nd set of O2 sims installed, but the fools that installed it destroyed the adjustment harnesses.

I have been advised to grounding with pin #23 on the small black connector instead of pin #32 in the large connector. Reason being i am currently using a SSTT which hooks up to the TMAP sensor (pin #32 ground).

I can't thank Andrew from www.Southernbm.com.au enough for his help on this matter.

Finally installed the new set of adjustment harnesses and re grounded to pin #23 in the small black connector.

Codes got cleared and CEL light dissapeared, drove for approx 20 miles and turned off the engine. Restarted the car and CEL light reappears.

Any ideas on what to do? anyone?

Maybe there is actually something wrong with one of the O2 sensors? Maybe they got damaged during the downpipe installation?

If that is the case then both O2 sensors have been damaged? as code reading shows:

DME-2C74 DME: Oxygen sensor after catalytic converter 2, signal - short circuit to positive - Fault currently present - Fault would cause warning lamp (MIL) to light up
Oxygen sensor 2 downstream of catalytic con B1214_NH6LH2

DME-2C73 DME: Oxygen sensor after catalytic converter 1, signal - short circuit to positive - Fault currently present - Fault would cause warning lamp (MIL) to light up
Oxygen sensor downstream of catalytic con B1214_NH6LH1

Any idea how to check if the O2 sensors are not damaged without replacing the original catted DP's?

Regards,
Alan
