To Install my Dinan Intercooler or Not!
So someone scratched up the bottom of my front bumper, as well as both cf trim pieces, but since it's not very visible I decided to use the money I would to repair it, (call me anal,) to get a Dinan Intercooler. I wanted to get in before the 15% rebate goes up at the end of the month as well. (My son wanted to visit the Santa Ana Zoo so we were in the area as well to the nearest Dinan/BMW Dealer to me.)
Now I'm having second thoughts because Dinan's official stance has been that they do not support the M Aero front bumper on an e90, and the reason I decided to stick with them was for warranty concerns. If I don't install it, I have the peace of mind that I can go to my local dealer and not have any issues, but now I lose the 15% as the rebate requires proof of installation. If I do install it, the cost would be about $640 plus I would probably need to go approx. 40 miles to that dealer to have no worries about warranty work, vs. less than 10. Any opinions? TIA |

I am fairly positive that you can install it where ever you want, and send that reciept to Dinan to prove installation. Just call and ask them.
I know for a fact that you can install their products yourself and still get their warranty, so why would this be any different? Unless of course they want to get the install profit by luring you in with a 15% discount...

Good point about warranty. It just doesn't cover labor to remove it if I do it myself. I asked if I could get a copy of the installation instructions to see if I can try to do it myself. Thank you for your advice/opinion!
Oh, the 15% is still available if you install it on your own. You do have to take a picture of it installed though. Last edited by jzchen; 04-28-2009 at 02:06 AM.. Reason: 15% response. |

As an update.
I had asked the parts advisor if I could get one without the Dinan logo, if it came with instructions, and if it would fit with my M Aero kit. So Tues she leaves me a message saying she can't get it without the logo, it does come with instructions, and the Dinan sales person said there aren't any reports of issues so it should fit. She asks me to call her back on whether I want to cancel or go ahead. (I left my payment for the part and she had stated she could refund me if the answers weren't acceptable.) I call her back Wed. and she asks if I just want a refund or go ahead and order it. Really nice of her! I think a lot of parts people would have just called me when it came in... I decide to go ahead and she said it would be there Fri. Well, it took till the Fri. after that. I went Sat to pick it up and check it out, and the box was huge! Part of the cost must go to shipping because I could barely carry it!!! I couldn't fit it in the trunk of our car, and decided I'd leave it there to have it installed instead of opening it up and the possibility of my 3 yr old boy playing with the parts. (I decided to wait until the stuffed toy my son wanted came in, and so I could save a trip, read more delay.) I ended up making an appointment for Today at 7 a.m. I took it in, and it should be 4 hrs but I didn't get a call to come pick it up. I have a nice loaner so they should call back as quickly as possible... I decide to mosey along to the Dinan website. I check out the page for the Intercooler, and note they now have a statement saying it doesn't fit the M Aero Kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder when they put that in. Definitely after I bought the part. |

Thanks for the kind support!!!
I finally got the car back today and they got it to fit! I'm also happy that they just charged me for 4 hours of labor. I was getting a little worried that they might charge actual hours... After getting the jolting on startup when cold issue fixed, (NIC issue), the car seemed to have a very sensitive throttle, kind of like I had a lead foot. Now it is just right! I guess that may be slight turbo lag that may occur with a larger intercooler. Anyways the car feels great now... |
