Royal Purple Oil for engine?
Anyone used royal purple oil for engine oil change? I was watching hotrod on speed, they were upgrading old camaro, and they said the car gained 20hp just using royal purple.

I'd give it a go, my buddy who used to own an SL600 used to run it. He said his car felt a lot quicker with Royal Purple, he also did a lot of research and found many dynos proving hp gains with RP. Its expensive, but he still runs it. Now he has an A4 2.0t

Royal Purple
RP just had to withdraw a bunch of ads because the Ad Council ruled they had no valid proof of their claims.
And if RP isn't an approved BMW oil (I don't know whether it is or isn't), you risk your warranty. Bottom line, unless you're running your car at redline all the time (e.g., racing), I suspect any of the approved BMW oils are about the same.

I've been using it for well over a year now. Car runs 15-20 degrees cooler and the idle is considerably smoother. In case anyone is wondering ......... the car has not encountered a single mechanical problem other than the fuel & oil levels reading incorrectly.

Just an Internet opinion---
BMW has an oil specification which starts with ACEA A3. Before accepting hearsay recommendations I think that some research into just what ACEA A3 and BMW LL01 mean, in terms of both standards and testing, would be a logical thing to do. The European oil standards, and the testing that they demand, are not some marketing voodoo exercise. This lesson has been learned in the most painful of manners by too many Audi, VW and Mercedes Benz owners. Finally, no one can say that their oil meets a standard unless it has been tested to the standard. Just look at BMW’s own problems with LL04 oil in the North American market. Modern engines are running at every higher temperatures and pressures in a complex environment. |
