£40k one year old 650 will loose around £15k over the next 12 months or so.
Mate has just got rid of his 2007 car with all the toys including heads up and after 3 months got £24k for it.

The 635d at a year old and the same sort of money will still loose around £12k as well, that is selling privately not trading.

A £40k DCT M3, and there is a black with bamboo one out there at a main dealer on a 58 plate with EDC at £42k if you look quick, will still be worth £32k in a years time, even as a trade, maybe £35k as an easy private sale.

Buying new or nearly new 335i, 335d, 535d, 550i, 635d or 650i is always going to cost you fortunes if you keep your car a year, because they loose 40% in the first 2 years.

If it were me it would have to be a 2006 M6 for £35k, pay the extra £900 a month for a proper BMW warranty and sell it a year later with a £5-7k loss, works out far cheaper than owning a 635d or 650i imho.

Plus he may find that the boredom won't set in with an M, saving even more money.

Gizze,

Some excellent advice that.....

I have to say that my heart wants an M6, my brain wants an M6, my wallet doesn't want an M6, HOWEVER, a 2006 one may not be out of reach.....

Still looking for a relatively low mileage M6 black, with beige or red interior (push come to shove may have to settle with black on black). Must have DCT gearbox.

Only thing is I have never driven an M6. I am 30 going on 31 in July, insurance is cheap with the 335 at about 350 squids or so. Any of you guys similar age? Whats the insurance for you?

Also what are some of the problems I could face with an M6 - Steve A or other M6 owners? And should I go down the pistonheads route or dealer? Please tell me the 900per month extra warranty was a typo and was supposed to be per year? Thanks again guys and gals really appreciate the advice.

As I say - I can feel myself swaying towards the M6! BTW - Gizze didn't find the M3 black / bamboo you were refferring to......
