My feet are too narrow and I couldn't find a comfortable position for heel and toe-ing in the E90. I ended up getting a set of Ultimate Pedals with the accelerator pedal extension. Works much better now for me.

The pedals in the BMW is placed closer together than any other make's pedal I've ever driven for easy heel-toe. Since it's bottom hinged it might be easier to try the non-traditional heel-toe techniques.

I'm OK with both methods, and on the BMW the second one is a bit better, but I still miss the accelerator pedal often in your second drawing because my foot is narrow enough to fall right in between the brake and accel pedals. It's better with bigger shoes but with pilotis or speedcats that I take to the track they fall right in between.

Yeah. Pretty much standard on my cars now. Had them on every car I own that I will ever track or autoX in the rain. They grip wet or dry, on any shoe and so far $10 has lasted me like 3 cars!

nice diagram! I'm definitely the 'alternate'/'heel-side of foot' kind of person. the heel of my shoe hits the transmission tunnel if i try to do the traditional method

The pedals on the 3 series are very close together, don't think they could be any closer... If your foot is falling between them, it's not that your foot is too narrow, it's that you are placing your foot too far on the brake.. You need to use less of your foot on the brake then you won't have this problem

I'm sure your setup is effective especially in the rain but sorry to tell you it looks awful

Must be then, I'm comfortable with this setup now as I've had it for about 8 months or so now. During the first year I just wasn't having a good time with heel / toe.

Gotta agree with it looking awful though... but then again I'm not too worried about aesthetics in the foot well compared to the grip.
