Which Brake Fluid to buy for 335i?

My cousins 335i with sport package got a sign from the IDrive saying he was low on brake fluid.

He currently has zero warrenty and he will not want me to give a reason why.

He wants to know which brake fluid to buy and how muc of it?

BMW DOT 4 only. BTW you might have leak somewhere. brake fluid flush recommend by bmw every two years

Unless doing a full flush, it is best to replace it with the OEM BMW DOT 4, but any DOT 4 fluid will work if doing a full flush. We have a few options available, including the OEM fluid here:

DOT 4 fluid is DOT 4 fluid. There's absolutely NO difference in "mixing" different fluids as long as they conform to DOT 4 standards. Even doing a "full flush" you will still end up mixing some fluids so the above advice, while in the best of intentions, are incorrect.

As for a leak somewhere, that MAY be a possibility, but it could also be that the brake pads are worn but haven't worn enough to trigger the low brake pad warning. If the fluid wasn't filled to the MAX level and as pads wear down, it takes more and more fluid to extend the caliper pistons further for the pads to contact the rotors, therefore it is entirely possible that there's no leak in the system, yet low brake fluid warning might be triggered.

Are you sure it's saying that the fluid is low? And not that it's saying the brake fluid service is due?
Have you actually checked the brake fluid level?
