Just wanted to take a poll on how much people are paying for their ipod interface + installation.

Note that even if you install the hardware yourself, the dealer still has to code the car to recognize it (with the possible exception of the case where a cd changer is being replaced), so there will be some installation cost.

You guys just don't realise how lucky you are
Just been quoted the following by my local BMW dealer--around 30 miles south of London. All sterling prices have been converted to US$ at the prevailing exchange rate:
To supply IPOD integration kit £195 $374 To fit (one hours labour) £129 $247 To recode vehicle (one hours labour) £129 $247 Total £453 $868 !!!!!! Yes that's right $868===at that price I don't think I'll bother |

wow $868.. it makes our $500+ sound like a good deal.. I can't get myself to pull the trigger considering a brand new 30gb ipod is only $250.
My SA actually told me it used to be cheaper but they raised the price because it is taking their technicians longer to install than what the factory recommanded. |

These prices are obscene. Almost 2x the cost of my 80 GB iPod on average. I'll stick with my SIk Ram Din cable and Scosche Remote.

Got my interface for $250 at Morristown, but then installation was quoted at 2.5hrs @ $105/hr (that included a free big gouge in the wood trim of my ash tray cover and a ton of swirl marks from a car wash that I stated repeatedly I didn't want them to do).
They had to have it overnight for re-coding too. I can only hope I tied up one of their techs for a bunch of non book hours too. edit: For me it's pretty much worth it to be able to see the song title and be able to up/down arrow on the steering wheel instead of reach down and fumble with the ipod. I bought an (old version) nano specifically for the car and it stays tucked away in the glove box for weeks on end. |
