Anti-Car Theft Video + Some Security/Defense Books
This is a video from the Broward County Sheriff's Office and offers some easy steps to avoid being a victim of crime. A friend of mine sent it to me. The theft looks so easy.
http://www.sheriff.org/videos/psa_cartheft.html On a somewhat related note, if anyone's interested in the topic of self-defense and awareness and on signs to look out for to avoid conflict, 2 really good books are: 1. The Gift of Fear - Gavin De Becker (he has other books but I haven't gotten to them yet) 2. Strong on Defense - Sanford Strong They're interesting reads and show how easily people fall victims and freeze up, believing their captor's reassurances which ultimately leads to more abuse. That's not all though but you get the idea. I found out about the above books through my martial arts instructor Other recommended reading, by Bruce Schneier: 1. Beyond Fear 2. Secrets & Lies Bruce Schneier is a respected computer security specialist and writer. If you're interested in general security he takes "a critical look at not just the threats to our security, but the ways in which we're encouraged to think about security by law enforcement agencies, businesses of all shapes and sizes, and our national governments and militaries." (from book description) He argues that the fastest way to gain "security" is by cutting back liberties... which leads to his coined phrase, "Security theater." I've read his other book, Secrets & Lies, which is more focused on digital security and computers, unlike Beyond Fear which seems to be more general.

That's a good video for the ladies. They're always leaving their purse in plain sight when leaving the car, not realizing how easy it is to just break the window and grab it.
