At the dealership looking at a E90 335i with Nav, I opened the door and heard this nice chime sound, indicating the key was in the ignition. My non-iDrive 335i has the ordinary ding sound.

I know there are lots of configurational settings available using your iDrive, but I wasn't aware of that, if that's what it is. Do you guys with iDrive all have that cool sounding chime?

Yes. Last week, I heard the non-iDrive ding for the first time, and asked, "what's that? I've never heard that before." Then I learned that the chime is only on iDrive cars.

I think next time around I'll get iDrive. Not just because of the chime, but because iDrive has a constellation of features in addition to merely navigation.
