Decisions...decisions...take the 335 unchipped to the track..or not?

I have to make a decision on taking an upchipped 335i to the track this weekend..or using my track miata.(that is slowly being modified for 75% track use). I am going to Dinan on Friday morning to have the flash removed as an experiment...but am thinking that I wanna take my miata instead...I dont want to be 187 miles from home at Thunderhill raceway with a car in limp mode with a CEL.

Argh...what to do...what to do?

Pic of the miata so far...

Bring your Miata and order the VK O/C so you can use it the rest of the season

Steve, I am not sure if the problem you have is specific to your car or Dinan in general, but I just ran my car at CAspeedway with proceded without any problems, no limps or hickups whatesover... granted I am not as fast as you, but I also had an instructor drive it for a whole session without any issues... Only problem was heat soak and temps at 280 or so... Good luck

His car has other mechanical issues, I would take the Maita until it gets sorted out. Unless you want test out the 335i stock.....

I know you would never do this. But what if you were to get track day insurance, tighten the seatbelt, go for a ride over 5 I think it is, then drive home in your Audi new Audi?

We'll always welcome you over here even if you don't have a bmw. Oh, and my pops asked if you were at BW/CalSpdwy this past weekend. You should be like him and take a v6 auto mustang to the track. Make the little boys cry.

I can't see in that pic very well, but I think that miata only has a hardtop and OEM 3pt seatbelkt and no rollcage, no arm restraints, no 5pt harness. If that is in fact the level of safety gear in that convertible I'm surprised you are even considering using it at the track, given how much experience you have.......

Cal Speedway was unseasonably COOL this past weekend. Last year in October's Cal Speedway school I personally witnessed a 335i go into limp mode 4 out of 4 sessions on Saturday.

Ah..you need glasses...it has a Hard Dog Double Diagonal with harness bar...the seat is to be installed tomorrow..Ultrashield Seat:

I have some Team Tech 5pt harnesses from my old spec miata..yes, I am getting new one soon..these are just temporary. I am not getting arm restraints..as I never liked them..I could get a window net instead. I am also getting a fire extinguisher...

Geez Nick...cut me some slack...

Yea my bad I was just watching this and didn't want you to die

Also, I am not too familiar with hard dog products (i always thought most of them were not homologated (which kinda makes them like show items?) and was expecting to see a 'spec' cage

Are you gonna pass tech with those harnesses? isn't there a date of manufacture clause in most club rules?

I'm changing my vote to miata after hearing that you actually have safety gear in there

Miata. I've just gone (in some degree) though the same exact process. I have a 335i that I no longer want to track, and have a '99 miata with Double diagonal Hard Dog Roll Bar, Hard Top, 5 pt harness, no arm restraints, no net. I haven't gotten seats yet, they're just Katzkin leather seats that I've "modified" to fit the harness with good mounting points. How do you like that seat? It looks nice.

BTW, my miata is white with a white hard top, but stock alloys. Do you like the Koseis?

Have fun, be safe.
