Thumbs up BMW USB Audio Integration

Hey guys,
do you unplug your usb stick/ usb mp3 player etc after you turn off your car?

just wondering if it draws a lot of battery power when the car is idle.

turning off your car is not "idling".

when your car is off, the accesory power is off as well, so no, your mp3 player doesn't draw any power from the car when it's off.

Just out of curiosity Canucklion, how many of your 10,000+ posts are from answering common sense questions or putting people in their place who don't ?

He tells it like it is... His common sense is greater than most peoples ability to search or even attempt to find the answer on there own

The OP clearly said when the car is idle, not idling. If an object is not mobile, it is idle.

^^+1, idle means not moving, not "idling". The OP knew what they meant. You misinterpreted their statement.

Even if power was supplied to the USB port while the car was off, the current drain is so low it's not going to empty your battery. Well, maybe if you let it sit for a couple years.... :P

The light on the USB stick is on when the car is off. Power is supplied to the USB port, but as the previous poster said don't worry, it's nothing for your battery.

AFAIK the car keeps the iPod (no experience with USB stick) charged even if the car is idle. I remember them saying that when they build the cars they use a larger capacity battery if there's more electronics that needs to be powered, so unless it's for a long time you should be good.

It cuts off after 10 or 15 minutes. Yes, I was paranoid in the beginning and had to check.

It is on when I get into the car in the morning.

May be it is activated when you open the door?

The car does not charge your iPOD or iPhone over night if you leave it parked and locked. I forgot my iPhone in the car plugged in to the USB when I made my 1st post and just got it out of the car. It's still at the battery level as when I left it in the car (red 10% battery level).

MP3 Question

I also have the USB connection in my BMW. You guys have said that with a regular Ipod if you connect through the USB port, you must also connect through the AUX input to get sound, the USB only provides the text information. However, if you use an Ipod Shuffle, the sound will play directly through the USB w/out the AUX connected. Is this because a different type of memory (flash) is used in the Ipod Shuffle? If so, does this mean that any other MP3 player with flash memory (specifically the Cowon O2 is what I'm interested in) would connect and play directly through the USB w/out the AUX connection?

I ask b/c if you connect through AUX, you lose sound quality b/c of D/A conversion.

Also, if anyone is familiar with the BBE technology used in Cowon players to enhance the quality of MP3 music, do you know if the player is connected through a USB port, rather than through use of the headphones, will that circumvent the BBE enhancements? Is BBE only operative and effective when music is played through the headphones (and I presume has passed through a D/A converter)?

Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

The iPhone uses flash memory as well...

There are a few threads here (this sub-forum) that discuss using various flash drives with the 6FL and what needs to be done in terms of supported file types, directory structures, etc.

That's right. Power is supplied for 20-30 minutes after the car is shut off, until it goes to sleep. While the car is in sleep mode, the ipod isn't getting power. When you open the car door, the car wakes up and power is restored, so if you look at it then, it looks like it's been powered all the time. It hasn't.
