This thread came at a great time as my M3 spoiler is arriving this week, woohoo!! My question is simple, what surface prep did you guys do to the trunk before attaching the spoiler? Alcohol wipe? Degreaser? Nothing?

I asked George at Detailed Image about prepping to mount mine and this was his reply:
For maximum bondage with an adhesive, you'll want to remove any layers of sealant or wax on the areas that the spoiler will mount to. The best way to do this is to clay the surface to remove any surface contamination and then follow up with some isopropyl alcohol and water. This will properly prep your paint for the installation of the spoiler. After it is installed, go back and reprotect the paint. |
