New knob for my SSK...will this match the M Sport interior ? Installed !
UPDATE: Installed the Momo Race Airleather knob (pics below) !
Now that I installed the BMW Performance SSK (pics and movies here), I realized that in order to get the most out of it I need a different shift knob. My palm is too big for the usual M-Sport shift knob, and also I noticed that even the soft edges of the current knob are annoying and somewhat painful. So I was thinking about this Momo knob...I believe spherical shape is ideal for shifting. do you think it will match my interior ? (I have some areas with perforated leather like the steering wheel and the handbrake lever). Driving impressions: UPDATE: After a full summer day of driving, I can tell that the knob makes the world of a difference in shifting feel. Its much, much better than the stock M Sport knob. Its just easier and more precise to shift, desipite it not being heavier (in fact, it is a bit lighter than stock). After letting the car in the sun for 2 hours, when I grabbed the knob I felt the aluminium very hot on the hand. Image what would I do if I got an all-aluminium knob ! I would have had to wait at least 10 minutes with the car running and AC on until it would cool off. Spherical knobs are way better in feel than the standard knob. After I installed the SSK I felt some pain in my palm from shifting gears with the stock M Sport knob, because of the edges. Now the feeling is gone. Also, going from 2-nd to 3-rd is alot more precise and safe for me. The new knob is about as heavy as the stock knob (maybe a bit lighter). Price: I paid $53 for it. Much less than I expected ! Installation: Getting the stock knob out was problematic. When I pulled the knob, I extracted the knob AND the boot ! The stock boot is glued to the M Sport knob...I had to use a screwdriver to separate them. I managed to break some plastic bits on the stock knob, but whatever. It cannot be done otherwise. Installing the Momo Race knob is simple, first put a rubber cap (provided) over the lever, then insert a threaded aluminium ring, then push the knob and secure it with 3 provided screws (small "screwdriver" also provided). Then screw the threaded ring on the knob. Because the threaded ring has to sit on the lever before the knob is inserted, the knob cannot be pushed all the way down, but the screws and the rubber cap keep it firmly in place. Pictures below...

Those Momo shift knobs are really comfortable and very solid. While they aren't the prettiest out there, they are high quality pieces. Black and silver should look fine. I have one on my carrera, but it is all aluminum.

Sorry, perf'd leather won't match your ///M At all. I have a solid aluminum one (illuminated) from Bimmian and it matches the ebrake, pedals, etc from them. Also matches my interior trim perfectly. Either that or go OEM.

I've got an RK7A from UUC:
http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/RK7A/ Heavy as shit (>21oz), matches my aluminum trim perfectly, has no logos, and goes perfectly with my SSK... feels great!

Fabric interior, man I have never seen that before! I think the knob suits the trim and steering wheel, but I would have gone more OEM look myself.

Looks great man. I would have expected it to be a weighted knob though. Did you reuse the shift boot from the Msport? Any cutting/modding needed?
I settled for the Msport knob mainly for cosmetics, but when I get the SSK I want to get a spherical knob...at least for me I found them safer to use for aggressive/fast shifting. |

I don't like it.
Put that M knob back on there.

Looks great.
How does this not match? Peforated black leather and aluminum in a black interior with a perforated black leather steering wheel and aluminum trim - honestly WTF? |

Yeah, I didn't understand why people think it doesn't match. I guess it does need to say BMW or M like XPO186 said. FanboiZZZZZ in da house!
