non-ZSP to ZSP E92 seat upgrade gotcha!
Physically swapping the non-ZSP to ZSP seats is dead simple for one (reasonably strong) person.
However, IF you do NOT have the ZPP package, neither the seatback control nor the bolster control will work. The seat will move forwards/backwards and up/down, but without being able to adjust the seatback so can tilt back... The best information I have at the moment is that the control module needs to be re-programmed. Further, this does not appear to be a totally straightforward thing to do. I have also been told it is necessary to have the 'vehicle order' code from the ZSP car the seats came out of in order to successfully reprogram the control module. The vehicle order code is comprised of 3 sets of numbers: SA - Optional Equipment GM - Basic Features VN - Version Number Paying someone to reprogram the control module will add hundreds of dollars to the cost of a swap. It is indeterminate whether or not this will work, or if the wiring harness will also need to be changed. |

Update. It helps if the bloody plug for the seatback motor is plugged in.
The side bolsters still don't work, though. So, you get everything but the side bolster control when you swap out the seats. |

so wait, explain this again. I have non zsp seats, and don't have zpp either. Will I be able to use ZSP seats without having something reprogrammed or is it a must? Do non ZPP cars even have the plugs needed to power the seats or is that something else i need to buy? I wouldn't even care if 1/2 the stuff didn't work, I just want tilt up/down and slide back/front along with the side airbags.
Also FYI there is a DIY on the ZSP seats for the side bolsters and how to hardwire them in here : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229396 |

+1 I don't have Sport or Power seats, was wondering if powered sport seats would be plug and play? Is the wire for power seats pre-wired like the alarm?

do you have heated seats? I have non powered but heated and found out even if its not prewired you'll most likely be able to tap in since the heaters need power. I'll let you know when I get mine and have to go through it... placed my order today for some SWEEEEEEET lookin seats.

I have just tried doing this having bought some sport seats but none of the controls work which I dont understand as although my old seats did not have heat or lumbar or moving the seats back and forward they do have electric tilt and lift.
However none of this works now so it looks like I am going to have to sell the seats now havign only just bought them. totally gutted. |

hey, I was looking more into this myself for my 1er today, here's what I had and what I did- stock seats- non-sport, manual, no heat no lumbar, no power etc- swapped in two leatherette sport seats- no heat no power etc- that worked fine, airbag sensors work jut fine, no codes, except the power side bolsters do not work. realoem shows that it's supposedly just an adapter wire needed for the bolsters/lumbar and thats like $12 per side but I don't want to buy them if they wont work and I was hoping someone maybe had the wiring diagram to provide more info
ps- I also had Tom at eas code the car for sport seats, don't know if that makes a difference |
