What turbos are stock?
I am pretty sure I have read that the N54 uses Mitsubishi (MHI) turbos. Anyone know exactly which model is used? Knowing which model may help in locating replacements that have enhancements or figuring out what larger turbos may be direct replacements for a little more top end push.

I believe they are BMW OEM specs but manufactured by MHI. They are not off the shelf parts.

i've heard their made of a special metal alloy, that no other turbo is made of yet, that dissipates heat more quickly.... I've also heard they have the magical ability to make you feel like you're accelerating very quickly.

I could be wrong on this of course, but I would think that there are commonalities between the turbo BMW had them make and their regular production model. These turbos probably have proprietary exhaust housings due to what looks like v-band connectors for the downpipes. But what I'm after is compressor housing and wheel/shaft assemblies that are interchangeable.

I heard they are using IHI turbos. I've been looking awhile and I can't find the model number either. From the parts diagram it looks like the turbo and exhaust manifold are one piece. I thought it would be the more common type with a flange for a T25, T3 or T04 type.

From what i've seen on the searches I've done, Mitsubishi manufactures the turbos for the 335i. I even emailed MHI Europe for information but they didn't answer any of my questions other than that they are single scroll, not twin. Makes sense since there is only three cylinders for each turbo and that would create odd sequencing.
