Car park trauma continued

Afternoon everyone, some of you should remember my previous post about some idiot reversing ino my e92 in a car park and driving away without leaving any details. Well surprise surprise the police could not make out the cars registration number from the CCTV even although there are about 4 million cameras in the carpark the idiots couldnt get this registration number for me.

So after a few weeks of driving around with a bash in the side of my car and feeling terrible when everyone looks at me as if to say how could he possibly do that to such a nice car, i have had enough chasing!

Luckily i added a no claims protection to my insurance so it shouldnt make much difference to my premium i just have to pay my excess and get the car fixed. So its booked into Menzies BMW in stirling for a new rear quarter panel.

Looking into getting the M3 lip spoiler but depends how much they charge for it, anyone know how much it costs from the dealer? Im sure since they are spraying a quarter panel already through the insurance they might just get me to pay for the unpainted spoiler.

Getting a 118D Se on monday so will soon find out.

What will the IPCC be able top do?

You think it's the Police's fault the CCTV is crap and badly positioned?

I feel your pain mate, but calling them idiots because they couldn't read some poor out of focus picture is very harsh. I think they did well having a look in the first place.

I'd complain to the car park owners. Write to their HQ and ask them what's the point of their multi thousand CCTV system if it can't read a number plate.

Tell them your story and also tell them you hope it's not a hit and run, murder or child abduction number plate or decent ID image they miss next time.

Tell them you'd like some 'good will' to help with the damage costs as you place the fact that you can't trace the scum who drove off directly on their faulty CCTV system.

You may get your lip spoiler.

Ok maybe i over reacted calling them idiots but i just feel that the police could and should have been alot more helpfull and should have tried alot harder to get this guy. The CCTV operators allowed the police access to all the cameras but they only decided to look at one.

I suppose they thought it wasnt serious enough and didnt have the time / rescources to do anything for me or thats how the pc came across when i was on the phone to them on numerous occassions.

Point taken.

I'd still try the owners. Did they say the car was on multiple cameras? Ask to see the cameras yourself...

Similar happened to me some years ago in my shared and big works car park when someone hit my Scoob. The Police and security weren't interested as it was only a few hundred pounds worth of damage. So I asked to see the images and I sat at a spare station and worked through the footage for a few hours as it happened over a work day and the owners weren't prepared to resource a guy to do that.

Finally captured the moment the guy hit my car, get out, take a look and drive off. But I got no reg number. It was too far away and wasn't the greatest quality. I did get the car make and I walked around the car park until I found the car with my paint still on his bumper. Took it from there and a got a result.

Worth a try. If you don't feel all that effort is worth it, then maybe you get some idea as to why the Police may feel the same tying up a copper for several hours.

Don't get me wrong. I feel you pain and the scum should be brought to justice in some way, but it may need you to do it.

Blimey - how did you PROVE the pain on the bumper of the offending car was from your car?

Nice result! Not sure I'd have the patience to see it through like that though!

Wow , thats some result ! I wish i could get so lucky !

It happened in a shopping centre car park so i have no chance of finding the person who done it now!

I asked the CCTV operator's for the footage but they were unable to give me any details due to the data protection act. They couldnt even tell me the make / model of the car involved. All they told me was that the police needed to contact them for the info.

Anyway im fed up with the hastle im just getting the car sorted.

Looking forward to getting the M3 lip i recon itll finish the car off nicely!

I didn't have to prove it, because the guy fessed up. There really weren't too many cars in the car park (old Escort) driven by a bloke of his description with a blonde girl friend who'd driven into the spot to wait for him to finish work at that time....

Once I'd amassed that sort of detail he had nothing. Throw in the possibility of a phone call to the Police for 'driving away from the scene' and surprise surprise he decided to pay cash....

What annoyed me was that after admitting and offering... and me accepting..

Was that I'd probably let an uninsured driver continue on his way....

Shame you couldn't have got the film and waited....

It is time consuming and a pain...

One thing I can say having some good friends in the force, is that they are as frustrated as you at not being able to pursue these type if things...

Blame the Government...
