Dielectric grease when changing plugs?

Are you guys using dielectric grease on the plugs and boot/coil pack when you are changing the spark plugs?

I didn't but had so few miles and will be changing again in similar miles. I would have though had I had some; I didn't realize I didn't have any until after I was in deep. But it isn't the first time with many vehicles. It won't hurt to add though, IMO.

The boots are tight, so I just thought it might avoid problems down the road. I just want to make sure there are no adverse affects on the N54.

Nope - Just threw the new ones in. I changed mine at 20k due to a misfire issue and the new plugs solved the problem.

I didn't when I changed my plugs at 15K. Those babies seemed pretty well protected/isolated in there. I'll probably change again at the next 15k, so hopefully no sticking or corrosion.

My plan is similar, so I am not sure if it is worth it to put it in there. I just worry the dielectric grease might affect something negatively.

Here is something I found while surfing:

Finally, when you're just about ready to push the boot onto the plug, you may remember all the trouble you had getting it off. If so, you'll be tempted to smear a film of silicone dielectric grease on the inside of the boot, or spray on an aerosol "boot-release" lubricant, so the wire unplugs easily the next time.

And most of the time you'll be correct–but unfortunately, new technology is changing right to wrong. A new "lifetime" boot-release lubricant called type FHC is just coming into original equipment use. We've seen it first on the General Motors 4.0- and 4.6-liter Northstar V8s in Cadillacs and the Olds Aurora. It is not compatible with silicone grease, and if you add that grease over it, "tracks" of a carbon compound may form inside the boot.

So if you get a new car and some years down the road the plug wires pop off with a gentle pull, remember that perhaps you should spare the grease and save the boot. If you forget, your engine at some even later date will misfire, and your intelligent engine computer will give you a not-so-gentle reminder. Of course, FHC grease is just coming on stream, so you may go through a few cans of boot-release silicone lube before you acquire a car with FHC-treated boots.

I use it on my pickup because the block is a rust bucket. For the n54, eh prolly not.
