OK..the 335i upgraded is making 350 to the wheels..but is 400 possible. So the E46 m3 wich displaces 3246 cu. makes about 265 to the wheels and the stock 335i has only 2979 cu, 267 less, and really (w/ out turbos) makes about 260 hp, thats weird. so my question is, is bmw really undermining the 335i engine, or are M3 tuning compaines... like AA tuning just able to put a turbo kit out that makes 490 whp. So can the 335i make 400 to the wheels?
just wondering if any one has any input or ideas. thanks ![]()

400 is just a number. Almost any motor can make this number with the right parts. Some take more factory parts to be changed to get there though. Stock turbos may be a tad challenging to get to 4oohp but its not too far fetched to make it happen with more time in development but you will be running these turbos at maximum efficiency most likely which will degrade their life expectancy. 400hp would be easy with different turbos and the right tuner (easy is not meant to be interchangeable with "cheap").

the car can easily make 400whp, it's just a matter of how much $ you wanna spend, and how much you wanna compromise the reliability. the more you put into aftermarket parts, it's more likely your car won't last as long. but if money, reliability, and warranty aren't an issue for you, here are some basic ideas:
- uppipe, downpipe, full turboback exhaust - agressive ecu tune on 93 octane - replacing turbo's with a bigger one (one bigger turbo has the potential for more power and better numbers to flex your e-peen, but won't necessarily be faster 0-100 or in the 1/4, because with a bigger turbo, you will lose the great torque at early rpm that the two small turbo's provide for, and turbo "lag" will definetely be 10x more present than it is compared to stock.) - larger intercooler - lightweight flywheel those are some basic not too expensive mods that will provide you close to your goal. any further than that and you're looking at engine rebuild and forging of internals. pricey shit. the problem with getting big numbers with bmw's is that their engines are already so sick from the factory. i mean, a chevrolet Z06 goes 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. a 335i with vishnu's stage 1 on 91 octane can reportedly go 0-60 in 4.2. with a few other mods it, some nice tires, and some weight reduction (take out spare tire etc.), the 335i could probably hit the 4 second barrier, which is EXTREMELY impressive. however, any further than that and you're definetely compromising reliability. but seriously, an agressively tuned 335i should be able to take a 500hp Ford Shelby GT500. not to shabby since musclecars are supposed to be the fastest in a straight line. that's about all i can think of atm, hope it helps :_) |

That's the first thing I do even on the stock 335i.

I agree with herbz. Wanting to go 400+hp, you are asking for problems. I have a Supra TT and I learned quickly that the more power you give it, the more problems you get. Mainly with the tranny and then longevity.
Look, you just payed $40,000 for this beautiful car. Vishnu's XEDE and exhaust will make this a beast already. 4.2 seconds. Jesus. Thats already going to probably be faster than the new M3 coming out. Be happy and enjoy your awesome car, don't kill it. |

You can build a lawn mower to 400 HP with enought cash. The 335i can do it easily. When you make that kind of power your weak links are going to brake. The engine can handle it but the rest of your drive train....not so well. Expect to spend some cash on repairs if you plan on making 400 WHP.
It would be fun as hell to drive while it was working though. ![]() |
