The political and media system is a powerful (brain washing) machine in this county. Partly because we're somewhat "sheltered" from the rest of the world and being a country predominately known for it's raw commodities, not many in our population has that entrepreneurial thinking. (think honey bee)

And I just love how at the sniff of the "R" word, everything on tv suddenly switched to about how cheaply you can live. The problem with promoting cheap living is you educate a populate to be cheap thinkers and promoting that "what about me" attitude.. $900 "KRUDD" bonus reinforces that.

The $900 handout annoyed me. The govt handed out money they didn't have, while the people who paid for it didn't see a cent. Almost like a popularity stunt - and our kids will be paying it off in 20yrs from now!

I was devastated to hear bligh was voted in to QLD, I just cannot understand people's logic. Oh well, if things don't swing next federal election, i'm packing up and moving o/s.

I was devastated too, I was really hoping that the anti-labour sentiment that was starting to build would amount to something in the QLD election. From friends I know who live in QLD, they said that The Borg really lost it, rather than Bligh winning is, so there is some cold comfort.

But QLDers are not going to punish Rudd at the next federal election I suspect, but other states may.

I was genuinely depressed for a week or two after Liberal lost the federal election. Now all my (seemingly) irrational fears about Labour appear to be coming home to roost. Like you I considered leaving Australia... I just don't understand how the general public still give Rudd such a high opinion poll. My only comfort is the recent decision by Ian Harper, and watching Labour squirm so uncomfortably to keep the unions happy while not being able to defeat his logic which was deliciously wrapped in Labour logic. I bet he is still laughing to himself right now about that one. I think the most instructive thing is that Labour showed quite clearly that they don't have the stomach to make the hard decisions. Harper made the right call, Gillard et al just couldn't come out into the open and agree. This doesn't bode well for when we do need tougher budgets, and guess who is going to get mugged to keep the great unwashed happy... the so called "rich", living the high life on their $150k pa, waking up in the mornings wondering what to do with their wads of cash today...

I have all but lost hope for SA ever being a Liberal state again after the farce of the state Liberal leadership spill here and some no-name being elected leader
