E90 330i vs 2009 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro?

Whats the verdict?

From what i've read the A4 still feels underpowered for a 3.2L V6 and edmunds based it against the 330i at .1 sec slower in the 0-60.

Quote:
The engine's smoothness is deceptive, though, because the new A4 3.2 Quattro's acceleration time to 100 kph (62 mph) of 6.2 seconds makes it almost as fast as the BMW 330i (6.1 seconds).

why are we comparing a ten year old car to a brand new one?

Verdict on what? Seems like there's some data about which is quicker to 60.

It isn't ten years old. The article seems to refer to the "B8" platform (Audi Speak for the new A4 i think).

I guess he wants opinions from people who've driven both.

The B8 A4 will have more room...a slightly nicer interior...a usable trunk...a jack..and a mini spare....it will be slightly slower..and maybe a bit more expensive equipped similarly. It will also have quattro. If I was price independent..I would go for the Audi.

BTW, didnt they stop selling the 330 in 2007..its just 328s now...right>?

I think he's trying to compare a new A4 3.2 to his car, which is a 330.

Straight line, they will be very close. The Audi is going to be automatic so you better know how to drive down the straights. In the turns, the Audi will be nose heavy so I doubt it'll keep up. It also is going to weigh more than your car.

Like I said... 10 years ago.

Quattro is amazing in the wet. No words for how great it is.

That said, I like to joke that quattro is an acronym for, "I don't know how to drive so I just make up for my shitty skills with technology."

Satakal...you rode with Dan Smith in his S4 at Laguna, right? That car didnt seem to have a lot of extra weight...his car was probably the same weight as yours.

Take it to the track and get some slips or do some lead follow at the next HPDE to figure it out rather than mag racing...

I would wait to see if the torque biasing rear diff will filter down from the upcoming S4 into the A4 models before committing because I think that tech has the potential to really improve how the car handles

Pretty sure the A4 weighs about the same as the 330i

I'm such a ride whore. Probably. Was he the guy with the turbo car making like 2+ bars? On Hoosiers or better?

When I get in a car that is way above my comprehension, or ride with a driver who's way above my knowledge, it's more of an e-ticket ride than anything else. Off all the things I process, I rarely consider short comings of the car.

Being prejudiced is not as much "ok" as "acceptable if that's your thing". Right? I'm just not into the audis.

My S4 was overweight, nose heavy understeering pig. Fast though. didn't handle great.

Personally I find underpowered (<200hp) cars hindered by AWD as the weight, friction, momentum, drivetrain loss take its toll on acceleration - not to mention weight ballance. This is less of a problem in cars like the 335ix.

330 was about as fast (I had the S4 bi-turbo), and has much much better weight ballance and handling (with sports package).

msn autos lists the 3.2 quatro at 3737 lbs. The 330i is listed as 3417 with 6MT, and 3450 with step.

I have to do a double take and make sure this IS the auto-cross/track forum.

So what does this post have to do with ANYTHING regarding auto-cross or track?

And on the normal models it still favours the front wheels...

I had a go in the new A4 and in my oppinion it still pushes its nose very wide under hard cornering. As a driving tool i would choose the BMW every time...

Had the Audi B7 for 5 months before going back to BMW for the same reason...

Manufacturers design cars to have slight understeer at the limit...if you change the suspension, you can get very favorable results from Audis...this is one of my Audis on track(just to make sure theHACK is happy.

Yeah..he is a stage three car probably making near 450 bhp...silver one. It ok to have a preference...I just dont like Audi bashing from people who have not given them a chance..or that base their comments on doing one test drive on a totally stock car.

I hear that. I agree totally. I especially hate it when internet morons talk like they know. When they don't, they're just regurgitating what they read in C&D.

Of all the audi haters out there... I think I'm the only one thats a member of the audi club. Its not even hate... just a preference.

I apologize for all the offensiveness contained in this. There may be a few chuckles in here. http://blip.tv/file/2015953 I know S4to335 has seen this.
