in the latest software the lag is all but cured although I've driven quite a few DCT cars and never experienced it but I do beleive it is an issue. In September a new code release comes out that solves it completely.

I have never experienced the lag that many complain about, maybe a little in D2 mode but then thats because it's set to D2, not D5 where you get next to no lag at all!

Tony, pleased you enjoyed the drive! I agree about the tautness of the M, i drove a S35i new Z4 last week and even in sport mode felt a little sloppy compared to the M. Defo a little spoilt.

The exhaust note at high revs is addictive. This addiction does not help economy

With your mileage I would struggle to justify an M over what you have already got. The M will provide more smiles per mile, but at quite a high cost.

At motorway speeds it is ticking over, and as you say, if you drop the cogs down it just pulls and pulls. I am sure mine would just keep pulling and pulling to the 155mph limiter if I tried

A DCT equipped M3 is an awesome machine though, and if you feel the need to scratch that itch, get it done!!

Yeah in traffic the DCT was perfect... no lag what so ever!

In actual fact... made me realise that my derv paddle shift has lag... buggar!

heh that was the mistake I made. Had a E46 330i, loved it until I took a test drive in an M3, couldn't resist buying one.

Regards,
Neil.

As I mentioned I'm going to drive a 335i DCT tomorrow, I want to give it a good test in stop start traffic, as the first one I tried was all free flowing, which was very impressive.

You considered keeping the 335d for racking the miles up and buying an E46 M3 for when you want something raw??
It is actually more raw than the E92, not as accomplished but a more raw drive and for me more fun car as a second car.

You could buy a really nice one for £12k.

Funny you should mention that... I was considering a E46 CSL at one time and that way i could poss afford to do more track days and have a proper track day tool.... however i would miss the big D for everyday use...

The E46 m3 could be a compromise?
