My CA doesn't know if you can special order an exterior color
Had preliminary discussion with my CA today about the possibility of leasing another 335i when my lease runs out in April. Not definite that i will do so but it is highly likely. I asked him about the cost of ordering a non standard color ( I would want either Indianapolis or Imola red). CA sid that he knows that it can be ordered on the other series BMWs in the US(not sure about the 1 series) and it can be ordered on the 3 series in Europe. Has anyone been able to do such in the US? If so, what was the cost . TIA.

I think I heard that the cost is like $5500. That was a year or so ago. not sure if the option is still available

As long as they're not individual options I think they can be ordered without charge. My car is Barbera Red with a Saddle Brown interior and that was not a standard combo - no charge.
Edit: Just reread your post and I think I misunderstood. I think you are referring to an individual exterior color and I thought that couldn't be ordered at all in the U.S., but I certainly could be wrong. Sorry about that - just trying to help. |

I heard BMW refuses to put Imola Red on any current 3-series or M3. A buddy of mine was willing to pay $3500 to get it done on a E92 M3 and BMW refused. Supposedly that color is locked for future M models. He was really pissed off considering there was an Imola Red 650i on the showroom floor.
I would bet you could have Melbourne Red done for $$$$$ but not worth it IMO.

If you want a color not standard then you'll have to go BMW Individual. I'm not sure if they'll do that for a lease though. *Shrug*
I've also read many articles where people have been having issues getting BMW Individual, even on M3's. I believe this rule came about because people were purchasing Individuals and then cancelled on the orders. It also costs more for BMW Individual. If you got the money and your dealership is willing to go for it, then get it! Paying for the car up front and not leasing it may help your chances as well. JC |

I'd wondered about the same thing. At one point I wanted a deep, purple-black color not terribly different from a similar color offered by Bentley, but the only solution I found was to have it done aftermarket. My BMW dealer would do nothing to coordinate the transformation.
