+ 1 to Roadcone, great list!
some of the places i've been to on that list which I can vouch for are:
Noce, GREAT italian, try the mushroom-stuffed ravioli (it's an app, but can also get as a main)
Sotto Sotto is pretty good too, for Italian
Susur on King West--tasting menu, pretty good Asian-Fusion food
Marben on Wellington---Menu is French theme.....quite good as well.....classy atmosphere in there....
Those are "fine" places to dine.....Sotto Sotto is actually quite reasonable, however...

If you want to try a restaurant with GREAT food, and don't mind the casual atmosphere (trendy casual), then try Supermarket, near Kensington Market.....food is really, really good....it's like Asian-fusion Tapas......the food is ridiculously good...i just can't say that enough......since you're celebrating an anniversary, may not want to go there for your "main" celebration, but you really should check this place out.....i've taken tonnes of ppl there, and everyone finds the food to be spectacular and original.......

Susur is gone..

Lee is still around, he opened a new one called Madeline's. His flagship is now moved to NY and renamed as "Shang", unfortunately, the review for his NY restaurant is not very positive.

It's just business casual, so not really that bad.

I like summerlicious and winterlicious period, as it seems that everyone is more casual in the restaurants.

I'm totally not impressed with Susur Lee. I had the worst experience at his restaurant. He's a pretty stuck up guy who thinks he's all that, when there's so many other chefs that are 100 times more talented than him. I'm glad he's getting poor reviews. He's basically cooking overpriced chinese food with a bit of truffle oil on the side lol

LOL That is the exact same sentiment my parents has for him when we first tried out the restaurant he opened before Lee and Susur.

Toronto Life did a story about his new restaurant in NY here

I thought the food was not bad, presentation was interesting but yes, there are definitely more talented chefs in Toronto.

His restaurant was packed and people were waiting for seats while we were there though, so it seems that he was doing ok.

It was an experience eating there. Had to wait a long time for our dishes to come, and it seems that they ran out of some of the dishes in their tasting menu and had to improvise. (We supposedly had an alloted sitting time for our sitting, but ended up running overtime since they could not bring the food over to us quickly.)

The only thing that I thought was really interesting was how he arrange to send the "main course" out in some strange order, and how the food they bring was suppose to start with heavy dishes first and getting lighter towards the end...

On a side note, if anyone wanted Sunday Brunch, I really like the one at Fairmont Royal York. I used to go to King Edward, but it is crap now.

I would recommend captin john's seafood. It's located in downtown Toronto near the harbour. Great food, great service, and to top it all off, you're eating on a ship!

Please tell me you are joking! This recommendation along with the Old Spaghetti House should be removed from this thread!

Its really sad, I'd have to rate their tasting menu in my top 5 restaurants in Toronto.

The one on Bloor is even more awesome. And by awesome, I mean ghetto.

I like Noce, but the view isn't good. The food is amazing, though.

If you guys have any plans to head up to Stratford for some Shakesphere plays, I highly recommend Rundles, the food there is quite good, and we were quite impressed.
