Service times , i read the manual but..

Can someone tell me after how many miles one is supposed to take the car for service? I have 13k and only took it once for an oil change...does this sound right?

My service light (not the engine light) came on...i took it to the dealer...he said he only changed oil. On the way home, the light came back on..drove back..he said let me fix that real quick...he pushed a button that reset the "date/counters" and the service light went off

...now I have 1 year before service!!!

Just want to make sure that this sounds right..

yeah that sounds about right, though many people fork over extra $$ to have more frequent oil changes
